Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony's 1st Million Seller In Japan Since 2004 Is ....

Minecraft for Vita (retail sales only). Well it's basically a Microsoft game, but yeah this is the first time Sony as a publisher has hit 1 million with a game itself in Japan in a whopping 12 years. Gran Turismo 4 on PS2 was the last one to do it in December 2004 right when the Nintendo DS was just taking its baby steps.

Just for comparison, Nintendo has published 50+ million sellers in Japan since 2004.

That DS-3DS era has really slapped Sony hard in Japan.

Minecraft really isn't even a "Sony" game, MS just lets them handle the publishing duties.

I'm curious if Sony is at all worried about the future home console gaming in Japan. Cause having only 1 game in the past 10 years that they published on handhelds speaks volumes of the current state of console gaming.

Or Sony's terrible handheld support.

I've been saying for years Sony doesn't really care about Japan because its a relatively niche market. On top of that, its a shrinking console market.

I think MS, Sony, and Nintendo are trying to prepare for a world where consoles are less relevant while still reaching a large userbase.

This is why I think Nintendo is making the best move possible for Japan with the Switch. It just makes so much sense. Home console gaming is dying in Japan, very quickly. But what if you have a device that is both? It's going to be very interesting to see how Switch does there.

But I digress, Minecraft has done wonders for every console it has been on. It never stops selling!!! Even the Wii U version is selling pretty decent. Congrats to Microsoft I guess, lol!

Gaming is really broken in Japan.

My 8th gen collection

And it's not even their game. Lol.

This is... disturbing. I didn't even realise.

Oh fuck! That is sooo long! And if Sony isn't making a new handheld.......

Do they hardly publish games? Or the games they publish just doesn't reach 1mil?

Pocky Lover Boy!
