Forums - Politics Discussion - Could Donald Trump actually have a mental illness, or Is he just a narcissistic jerk?

All that needs to be said ...

If Trump is a narcissist then all humans have that trait to a degree when it is in our psychologicall nature to be prideful ... (even those of a lower status must have some feeling of dignity left)

That's bullshit. I've never invented a fictional character nor masquerade as a fictional character to brag about myself.  Trump felt the need to concoct fictional spokesmen named John Miller and John Barron,  so that he could tell tall tales…so that he could brag about himself, his business and his conquest of women.  Such insecurity as Trump expresses, from the need to invent fictional characters, and masquerade as those fictional characters, to telling the world that he doesn’t have small private parts, is a sign that he has a mental problem that goes well beyond clinical narcissism.

And what about you? What's compelling you to bring this stuff up again after it's been done to death.

It really does read like a compulsive personality trait.

Hold on tight boyz, Hillary can still win this!

He won, but the guy is a narcisssist. Any psychology book will tell you that at first narcissists bear the qualities of someone who is self assured enough to take the mantle of leader, but there will be unusual flaws that you will see in him that are polarizing compared to other presidents. Its not just because of lack of experience, but rather personality. Despite his youthful attitude you need to keep in mind this guy is in his 70's and still acting this way.

And....?

You, Soundwave and a few others

Where is the NEW conversation?

Having a narcissist as a president frequently happens. There are many older examples like Lyndon B. Johnson, Teddy Roosevelt, Andrew Jackson, Franklin D. Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy and even relatively recently Bill Clinton ... (Having a president with a massive ego is not all that uncommon.)

Trump is insecure ? You must not know him very well ...

No. we've never had a narcissistic president, but narcissism and sociopaths are more likely to found in business than politics.

Unless you know all of them personaly i doubt this.

...quite literally every civilized country has leaders which do that, albeit in more subtle terms. President Obama credited his own administration for the rising stock market during the latest state of the union, President Bush credited his administration for the booming economy before the housing crisis, etc. It's not as blunt as "Thanks, me," but the sentiment is the same.

Regardless, the possibilities for US president have been terrifying for a long time now.

I'm pretty sure I've seen Obama use the "Thanks, Obama" meme. This seems like a reference to that.

If you've ever read a psychology book, narcissistic personality disorder has pretty clear hallmarks that are hard to miss. It doesnt take a rocket scientist. Look up the signs.

So, if you come to the conclusion that Trump (or anyone in your life) is on the extreme end of the narcissist spectrum — using the tools Navarro provides — then that person is, as his book explains, “an emotional, psychological, financial, physical danger to you or others.”

Navarro urged me to get his book and go through the checklists and make my own decision. In my scoring, Trump is off the charts. Your scoring may be different.

Interestingly, it was one of the checklists Navarro posted online that motivated me to contact him in the first place. I had been engaged with the question of whether Trump was delusional or a con man (or neither) since late May, when he told Californians suffering their worst drought in a thousand years, “There is no drought.”

He is obviously extremely narcissistic.

Im just talking about things psychologists have said in articles. In the business world  is easy pickings for a narcissistic entity. Take Martin Shkreli for instance. The same guy who boosted the price drugs used to help aids patients. Because there was no competition he rose the price up to unfathomable heights. Because it was made public, another grroup made their own generic to compete and lowered the price tremendously.  Everything is abot him, he does things to get attention ( like buy rappers unreleased albums and then announcing it), has a temper and has a lack of empathy for others. Clear symptoms of a narcissist. Trump has similar issues.

Doesn't he have people that tweet for him. Seems rather standard PR.

Nope it's all him. I doubt he's paying someone to tweet for him at 3 AM.

HAHAHAHA yes yes he does pay.

And?

You're just covering ground that has been covered a thousand times before. There's nothing new here, it's all just more of Trump being Trump but he hasn't gone any further with this than previously. He hasn't gone so far as to change anyone's opinion who like him with this.

They are more interested in going forward.

Nobody gives a damn that didn't give a damn before, because your talking points and that of the OP's are just a re-hash of previous talking points, which were a re-hash of previous ones.

Until it can be shown that this narcassism which hasn't even been proven has any credible bearing on his ability to perform in office, then quite frankly and quite rightly on a practical level; nobody cares that didn't care before.

The liberals have spent their "cry wolf" credits and it would take something cataclysmic to be taken seriously on anything negative on Trump from those that see through the red lens. You and everyone else will have to do a lot better than regurgitating poorly researched pseudo psychology that just wanders aimlessly in hypotheticals to be taken seriously or even with grace.

People have had it up to here!

edit: That last few words says it all really, these aren't Trump's issues. They are your issues with Trump. You don't like the guy, van jones doesn't like the guy, ok, great, fantastic, very happy for you, him, everyone.

Now what?
