I want it to be a 3D home console game. Is that ok?

Wish they put as much love into SMT than they do Persona...

How about start with a console release then? If it won't sell on Switch throw it on PS4.

It's going to be a mobile game.

I don't see a possible future where it's not on a home console lol so I wouldn't worry about that.

And honestly, I feel like they put a fair amount of effort into SMT4. Far and away the most ambitious 3DS RPG.

Hmm...well my opinion isn't worth as much, since I've only played IV, TMS, Persona 4, and the Devil Survivor remakes (and part of IV:A), but what I'd like the most are:

-Ability to save anytime: This is the most important to me. I played the vanilla version of P4...and the saving system honestly soured my experience overall. Being forced to replay the same two hours, just because I got unlucky after a long dungeon sequence, is not a challenge. It's purely tedious and annoying. I'm really glad TMS and SMT IV fixed this...and I hope I don't have to see it again. Being limited to saving in certain locations is honestly a mechanic I wouldn't mind going extinct.

-Diverse party members: This might not be for everyone...but I enjoyed Persona and Devil Survivor a lot more due to an interesting cast. While I enjoyed the tone of IV, there was honestly only one character I really cared about...which is a big problem in a game with such an interesting story. I would see these tragic moments happening being the cast and...just not really care. IV:A improved on this somewhat...at least based on where I currently am.

-Ability to control what skills are inherited. Maybe just a personal thing...but while playing P4...I remember going in and out of the fusion screen until I would get the skill combo I needed. I don't find tediousness to be fun, and so I hope the option to inherit skills remains the same as SMT IV and the Devil Survivor games.

The tone and difficulty are both fine to me whatever they choose, as the games I've played have covered a fairly wide range over both aspects. Whatever they plan to do...I just hope it's well done.

The party members are something I honestly hated about Apocalypse. It just feels so un-SMT to me to have party members who are characterized like that.

This is going to sound weird, but the cast being "boring" in SMT4 is one of my favorite things about it because it normalizes them. It's the only JRPG I've ever played with characters who didn't feel like walking gimmicks. At least not until the end of the game. It's why I want to play Noctorne and Strange Journey and why I like Kaneko. His art seems to bring out that "'bland" characterization I like so much that counter acts all of the hyper personalities JRPGs and anime tend to have.

I think that saving and inheriting skills will be a safe bet in terms of continuing to be the same.

A Switch release. That's it.

I hope it comes for the Switch. It'll provide great Japanese support for the switch

SMT4 was good, but I want the battles to feel real, first person view isn't justified
I always thought that SMT has the best gaming atmosphere from what atlus is producing, so I hope they get rid off that 1st person battle view and adopt something more exciting

I both agree and disagree with everything. There are so many different branches and spin offs for smt that they can make it look and play like anything. 5 could feel like a continuation of 4/apocalypse but we could easily get a new digital devil saga and suddenly it's like one of the ps2 games again.

First person is almost definitely a consession used to save resources and accomedate the 3DS hardware. The demon sprites from SMT4, to my knowledge, were recycled from Strange Journey, so they saved time and money there.

On top of that, there's no way the 3DS could have handle 4 3D rendered characters on the player's side on top of however many demons can end up being on the antagonists side, with hordes and what not. It's actually an area of restraint I respect Atlus for, on top of having mug shots. If the hardware you're working on can't handle something, try something else.

All that being said, I think Persona 5 and TMS are pretty obvious evidence of the direction SMT5 will go in this regard. SMT is most likely going to use a lot of accets from Persona. The same way SMT4 borrowed SJ sprites, for example, is the same way SMT5 will likely borrow P5 demon models to save dev time. I think the first person battles were a style choice, but they had a purpose.

I mean if it's that different, I don't think is shouldn't be called SMT5. It should be another spin-off.

So, to be clear, this is only asking about the main series.
