Do you know these celebs personally? Yes, we all have a handful fo favorite artists who have molded our lives, but outside of those you act as though celebrity deaths have the same impact as losing a friend or family member. It doesn't even come close (and if it does I question the bonds, even the weak ones, you have with your close ones).

The most that ever died this year? There is no measurment for how to define a celebrity. Are you going by paycheck? TV interview qunatity, Golden Globe/Nomination counts? And what about the celebs who don't bathe in the limelight?

Yeah, we all view the glass differently. The underlying point is that having a pessemistic view that is based on an opaque love of celebrities we don't even know may not be a great one. And was their contribution equal to that of other unknown influencers in this world? And, as I said, when was their last contribution? People act like David Bowie was such a great contributor when most people didn't give a shit about the last handful of albums he released until after he died...and even then...

Still, going with your logic, there has never been a bad year outside of the Wars, which onto itself is illogical, because there have in fact been bad years throughout all of mankind's history. YOu look at the glass in one way, rather than the whole.

All I'm is saying is show me why you think this way. I have a huge ass-list defending the good of 2016.

I've heard very little from you and others trying to support the opposite.

The best things about 2016:
DING DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD! No more Hillary! =)

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

Very little?

Does death as a concept mean nothing to you, as well as the sadness that comes from death itself?. You have to point out the actual good, because what is good for someone, isn't always for someone else, but death is an absolute. if I were to list all the deaths (because you know full well what an insane task that is, to go and sum up more data than what you presented).

I feel like you feel threatened by bad news from this small talk. You have a different view from mine, this is without a doubt. But trying to claim that every year is objectively a good year each time is just plain illogical and silly. Mirror arguments in this case serve no purpose (because I know most people respond to the last part and use it against the the other person speaking said line).

No, not really. The frequent terror attacks affect me more than any of those events. My family was in paris just a few days before the paris attack, and my sister lives few km away from the bombing accident that happened in SEA in early 2016. 2016 is a reminder for me that nowhere is safe anymore.

Seemed pretty usual to me, with the exception of the rise of populists who offer easy solutions to difficult problems. 2016 was also the year I noticed democracy suffering some losses (mainly the situation in Turkey and seeing some news about trust in the importance of democracy hitting a worryingly low point).

I don't feel threatened by the "bad news" of celebrities dying because I don't know them. If Carrie Fisher was a role-model of yours throughout your life that's one thing. I have my role-models as well, we all do. But if she wasn't then why not ask yourself why you feel saddened in the same way you ask why I feel threatened.

For her family it was a downer on their year. For you? Were you her family?

Death is absolute? Okay, it happens every year so please explain to everyone how 2016 deaths were worse than 2015/14/13 deaths. You can't just include the famous celebrities you know. Which begs the other important question. Why would famous deaths be more important than unknown deaths if death is "absolute" how ever you spin it.

So her dying doesn't make it a downer for me at all then?. Are people only allowed to feel like they had a shit year when just their family members die, is this now an official rule?.

Again, you aren't answering the original point, do you think that each year, besides the few wars, are objectively good no matter what?. You seem to be very cock sure that nothing ever makes for a bad eyar in the objective sense, but I know you're wrong on that by accounts of different acts that take place each year, death being one that constantly happens, yet numbers and people shouldn't be tossed aside like chess pieces.

People of her status die every year. Is every year bad as well?

No, I don't think every year is objectively good. In fact I think this is a highly subjective point that other people have made in the thread. One person can ahve a good year, and another person a bad year. However, I think most people don't have catastrophic or controversial years - many people have illustrated this by saying nothing special happened this year. Special things may ahve happened (it's life after all), but it wasn't filled with them.

I guess I understand how baffled you are by my point of view because I can't for the life of me understand how the deaths of unrelated people (why does it matter if they are a celebrity?) could change the entire outlook of a *whole* year...

2016 was god-tier for me. Trump became POTUS, I got a new job and one of my dream cars, FFXV came out and was fantastic, new album from my favorite band, Civil War was everything I dreamed of. It was great.
