Forums - General Discussion - 2016 Was Awesome!

Do you lean towards Optimism or a Pessimism?

Optimism 40 58.82%

Pessemism 28 41.18%

Total:68

Optimist.

Good news happens slowly, while bad news tends to be event based and gets focus.

Millions of people globally every year are lifted out of absolute poverty and gets little attention. 2016 on average was the best year to be a human in our history.

It was a decent year, lots of good but also lots of bad, I had a lot of tech break on me this year and spent the last few weeks running around trying to fix my stuff. I'm ending university on a good note though so it's not all bad.

Maybe not in number but sure on negative impact for society.

The iconic people dying is just the icing on the c
ake.

You realize that more celebrities dying each year is not only a natural consequence of population growth and the diversification of entertainment, but that it will happen every subsequent year? If it happens every year is that going to negate every single year's positives?

And let's be honest, the things on that list are shaping the world NOW. Most of the celebrities who died were already long past their major contributions, or all of them, to society whether it was a song, album, movie, etc, In other words, if they had continued living their impact would have still been the same since it was done with.

Last recorded time so many celeb deaths occured was 1982...

By your logic in your OP and against GNM, every year is objectively always a good year, unless we have a world war, which I'm going to assume will be like a speck on the mirror versus all the good things. Basically humanity has always had it good.

I'd like to add to the celeb deaths, like all the people that have died this year, popular and not so popular, innocent and non innocent. companies going bust, companies getting away with acts they shouldn't etc. If you want to say that the goods always outweigh the cons, then you'll have to put that towards everyone, but even then the whole world wouldn't agree with you single handedly anyway, because we all view the glass differently.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

Do you know these celebs personally? Yes, we all have a handful fo favorite artists who have molded our lives, but outside of those you act as though celebrity deaths have the same impact as losing a friend or family member. It doesn't even come close (and if it does I question the bonds, even the weak ones, you have with your close ones).

The most that ever died this year? There is no measurment for how to define a celebrity. Are you going by paycheck? TV interview qunatity, Golden Globe/Nomination counts? And what about the celebs who don't bathe in the limelight?

Yeah, we all view the glass differently. The underlying point is that having a pessemistic view that is based on an opaque love of celebrities we don't even know may not be a great one. And was their contribution equal to that of other unknown influencers in this world? And, as I said, when was their last contribution? People act like David Bowie was such a great contributor when most people didn't give a shit about the last handful of albums he released until after he died...and even then...

Actually David Bowie fans were pretty active then because he released his biggest masterpiece in decades just few days before his dead, few years ago he also released a surprisingly good album very well received by critics and people so he was totally contributing to the musical scene when he died, Bowie was for me, by far, the saddest death of an icon ever, few artist of the last century have marked the current culture and my mind as much as he did.

You can only measure 2016 In one way

How many celebrity sex vids/posts or nudes were released or leaked?

The problem is that this all looks like it'll go downhill with trump as offense

I don't care if I get modded. He's a moron and has the most retarded cabinet I've ever seen( the vice president isn't any better)

It's irritating when you constantly see promise after promise, politician after politician that provides nothing to solve many of the issues we see in America and palestine/israel. Heck, why do American politicians care so much for israel? We have enough issues here...

Don't want to get off topic though. 2016 was a decent year altogether. The economy seems to improve, especially in japan, so im hoping it stays like that.

As for celebrities, I could care less. I only care if someone like Nelson Mandella dies.

I don't want to provide the typical "oh no trump will doom the world!" argument, but I seriously don't see anything good coming out of his presidency. Promises to tear up crucial contracts is far from ok. Decreasing the budget of NASA and Planned Parenthood and kissing up to the elite is the opposite of good. I think 2016 altogether was much better than 2015, as we also saw the conclusion of the Syrian war

Yeeeeeeesssssss.

It annoys me a little that because some celebrities have died, its the "worse year ever".

I'm sure if you are a family member of one of the celebrities then yes it probably wasnt a great year, but people really should be looking at their own lives and saying, my family are all well and good, nothing bad has happened, everyone in the family is happy. It's been an ok/good year. My wife said it to me best, some of the people she has on facebook have not once mentioned these celebrities over the last few years when they were alive, and now they are dead, it... post after post crying about how bad this year is. Stupid.

Making an indie game : Dead of Day!

I also liked 2016

This is exactly what I mean. It seems unique to humanity even if only for the simple fact that we are a social species.

It's like a conjured up sadness from emotions that were never real to begin with. I'm being serious here.
