Nintendo can't support two distinct platforms anymore.

Hell, really Sony or Microsoft can't either.

People need to just let that go, it's not happening. Not with HD development, even if "PS3/360/Wii U" tier is your "low end", that's still requires incredible amount of resources. Now that portables can have PS3/360 level of power, the days of cute little portables that played little small games that could be made by 10-20 people are over. 

Nintendo also has to support smartphone platforms now too.

Like most people here, I'm saying "March 2017" because if Nintendo releases a true successor to the 3DS, that just tells me that the Switch failed because Nintendo doesn't have the manpower to support two separate HD platforms.

Considering what happened with Sony and the Vita and how they shifted to PS4 for all of their studios. This wouldn't surprise me.
