Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Is Lost Odyssey a good game and should I put time into it?

Yes. You should play it. It still looks good on Xbox One and the characters are (mostly) awesome. Pay attention to those tutorials, though!

I don't see it like that honestly, but it comes down to tastes, I found it pretty addicitive and I did had a much sense of control over the battle that what you describe, maybe you gotta play it more.

Believe me, I tried to restart the game more than once, but it didn't work for me. I wish they had an option to turn off the auto-attacks, similar to the change in settings to "Manual" that you can do in The Last Story. Reading about how great the story is supposed to be only helped to add fuel to my frustration with the game.

Lost Odyssey is probably among my favourite 360 games, and the whole seventh gen. I'm not sure I would call it the best, as there are some other games (Such as Tales of Vesperia, Demon's/Dark Souls and The Last Story) that certainly match it when it comes to JRPG greatness, but it's definitively awesome.

A quick summary of the things it does right and wrong:

+ Fun, interesting combat with a certain depth to it.

+ Some memorable characters, like Jansen.

+ Absolutely kickass OST.

+ A good story which, while having a somewhat cliche villain, manages to be interesting, with some nice twists along the way.

+ The side narrative stories of the immortals, A Thousand Years of Dreams or something like that called. They're powerful stories to find and read.

- Some useless characters that the game has the audacity to give them incredibly good skills despite being useless. (I'M LOOKING AT YOU, TOLTEN!)

- Some important story details, while not crucial, are told in such a casual, quick manner at times you'd be forgiven to gloss them over completely.

- Dungeon design is meh, for the most part.

- Balance of the game is easily broken in favour of the player, thanks to the immortals.

But I just don't understand how turning off the auto attack would make it better, while the arts are charging you are constantly making low level damage to the enemy and moving around to avoid attacks or put yourself in the most efective place to use the next art, that's all, turn off that and you only have a harder game where the character don't do nothing between attacks which would also look weird.

One of my favorite JRPGs of all time. It was the real FFXIII in my opinion.

Lost Odyssey is one of the most underrated games of all time, seriously.
It's an immense JRPG. A true hidden gem.

Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you are necessarily right.

I'm not a fan of jrpg either. But the game is best in its class that's for sure.

I am on disc 2. So far I am okay with it. There is a few clunkiness to the game especially when solving puzzles. On the bright side there seems to be little to no need to level up.

Be sure to post your impressions when you're done. I replayed it back in October (I think) and still loved it. My only gripe was that Gongora wasn't as overwhelming or hated as I'd like. A good but not great villain. A little more character customization would have been nice, too.

Jansen is one of my favorite characters in all of gaming. A man after my own heart.

I'm now on disc 3 of the game. I thought it was funny when Jansen was taunting Gongora.
