Forums - General Discussion - So is Rogue One the best Star Wars movie?

It is at least better than the 3 prequels (but being better than those turds is no real achievement). Apart from that it is just a just an average movie, not bad but not amazing and certainly none of the wow factor the originals had.

It is absolutely a better movie, MUCH better, than crappy/lazy/nostalgia-cash-in Ep. VII.

But that isn't say a WHOLE hell of a lot. Is it up there with the original trilogy? Not even close.

They really didn't give you much with the plethora of characters, you don't really get to know them, or grow to care about them. They're just there, they're "rebels", and they steal some plans for the Death Star. We had to already know they would all SPOILERS by the end of the film. Donnie Yen was great in his role, for what it was. But the film was very light on character.

Jyn was a better character than Rey, if nothing else by virtue of the fact that she actually HAS a character. She isn't perfect, she doesn't do everything herself, she actually needs and accepts HELP at points in the story. She is flawed and real. I'll give her that. She was just kinda lifeless and wooden. Rey had plenty of life, but was, in every true sense of the word, a "Mary Sue". That isn't Rey's fault. It's the fault of the idiots who re-wrote her, and decided it was more important to make her an almost zero-substance, zero-backstory feminist avatar, instead of giving us a real, human, flawed character to care about.

I'm certain that, for his faults, Lucas' ORIGINAL story treatment for Ep. VII, treated the character of Rey with a lot more respect, and she probably WASN'T a Mary Sue at all. There also probably wasn't another Death Star, nor all the stupid "nostalgia button" moments.

It was certainly good, but I wouldn't call it the best. Not even close. The slow start hurt the movie, but the third act was phenomenal. It's definitely among the better Star Wars movies, but not the best.

I've got it at top 3, minimum.

Empire, Sith, and Rogue are my favorites.

It's top 3 for me. Right there with IV and V

I wouldnt say its THE best, but I def. Think its the best since ep. 6. it has great production values and while it doesnt stray from the war film formula, the fact that it feels like a war film makes it stand out. Rogue One its better done and acted than The Force Awakens, thats for sure.

1. New Hope
2. Empire
3. Revenge of the Sith
4. Return of the Jedi
5. Force Awakens
6. Rogue One
7. Attack of the Clones
8. Phantom Menace

this is it....

It is near the end of the end....

Better than Episode 1, 2, 3, 7, the two Ewok films etc' as far as Story is concerned.

Character wise, they pushed things by being forced to use CGI characters which can look pretty terrible at times in my opinion, but understand why they had to. (A New hope is almost 40 years old, some actors don't even exist anymore.)

And it had probably one of the most enjoyable battles for me out of any StarWars films.

Everyone should give it a watch in my opinion, the story premise basically delves deeper into a memorable line that was said in A New Hope and it transitions perfectly into A New Hope at the end of it all.

It was a slow start, but damn did it built up to an awesome finale. The last act is just sooo good.

Agreed. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Saw it in a Dolby Cinema and was by far the best theater experience I have ever had. Will see again this weekend.

Nope. The first three movies>everything else.
