Mario party star rush open with only 20k back in early october, now it's at 105k+ as of last week...

Never underestimate the huge legs of Mario party games.
It has definitely been benefited from holidays too.

Isn`t it like a 3rd version of the original Yokai Watch 3 games? Like Pokemon Crystal or Platinum are to Gold/Silver or Diamond/Peal respectively.

300k is way, way lower than YW sales, isn't it? Or this 3rd versions sell a lot less anyway?

It did higher than most expected (~200k-250k), and with legs it can do pretty well.

But yeah, the series has fallen from its glory quite quickly. Most say it's Level-5 milking the series. We got 3 mainline titles and 1 spin-off in 3 years?

Edit: for comparisons, the last main 2 entries sold over 1 million FW (I think YW2 sold like 2 million FW, too lazy to check), and the original sold like Splatoon, but with even better legs.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

There are more spinoffs. From wikipedia:

  • Yo-kai Watch Busters (Nintendo 3DS, 2015)
  • Yo-kai Watch Dance: Just Dance Special Version (Wii U, 2015) – Co-developed and published by Ubisoft as part of the Just Dance series
  • Yo-kai Sangokushi (Nintendo 3DS, 2016)
  • Yo-kai Land (iOS, Android, 2015)
  • Yo-kai Taiso Dai-Ichi Puzzle da Nyan (ようかい体操第一 パズルだニャン Yōkai Taisō Dai-Ichi Pazuru da Nyan, lit. "Yo-kai Exercise No. 1: Puzzle Meow) (iOS, Android, 2013)
  • Yo-kai Watch: PuniPuni (妖怪ウォッチ ぷにぷに Yōkai Wotchi Punipuni) (iOS, Android, 2015)
  • Yo-kai Watch: Wibble Wobble (iOS, Android, 2016)
  • Yo-kai Daijiten (妖怪大辞典, lit. "Yo-kai Medallium") (iOS, Android, 2016)
  • Yo-kai Watch: Gerapo Rhythm (妖怪ウォッチ ゲラポリズム Yōkai Wotchi Gerapo Rizumu) (iOS, Android, 2017)

To be fair, there were a lot of spinoffs when Pokemon came out too (the Stadium ones, the TGC games, Puzzle Challenge and League, Hey You, Snap, Pinball...). But I feel the annual mainline games is what is hurting its strenght the most, you can make all the spinoffs you want and not hurt the series that much, but if you make people tired of the main games...

You know it deserves the GOTY.

How to kill a franchise in one fell swoop

And no one thought otherwise.

The Pro has barely had any marketting whatsoever in Japan. Even at TGS, it was regulared to a mere mention while Sony pushed the Slim. With the way the console market is in Japan, cheaper is better for consoles. Pro is just for enthusiasts in Japan. Sony knows it. We know it . And slim is doing well for them.

Seems like 4 million LTD by the end of the year is on the cards.

Personally, since the beginning of the 8th gen, and even before, I never believed in another long-lived generation, I don't believe in utter domination and 100 million + selling consoles, but I've been challenged all the way, things like the PS4 Pro is/has been a large part of the counter-arguments. "How can you think that they 8th gen will be shorter when we're getting updated hardware like this?"

You don't think PS4 comfortably outselling it's 8th gen competitors combined is utter domination?

Turned it into an action RPG rather than brawler

Got rid of the licences for the shops from Akiba

Gave it a general low-budget feel (and it already felt pretty low-budget)

Dropped the Vita SKU (as they're going to release it at a later date)

AKA 'effed just about everything up with it.

Depends, I guess I'm thinking more along the lines of PS2 when I say "utter domination". Development costs forcing more widespread releases and support, shortened cycle, branching and splintering market and other factors would contribute to this. It surely is domination, but seemingly not as much as it should seeing as how the Wii U was never a factor, the One had a horrible start with all the negative press and both pricing and library have been more than adequate, perhaps even great, so far. I guess what I'm saying is that the PS4 is selling less than many expected, especially given the relative lack of competition. The Xbox "comeback" in NA is also quite telling, no one console is set to dominate the way the PS2, but this was also true for last gen, even more so.

I never expeted a PS2-like situatiuon, but there were those who did, and some apparently still do.
