In a way this is Star Wars fan porn. This is kind of in some ways the movie Star Wars fans have wanted but been denied over and over and over again, lol. 

To be honest though, I'll take it lol. This movie's second half is just one continous nerd boner, I mean the space battle scenes I was grinning like a freaking idiot all throughout. Not even going to lie. The OT space designs and sense of battle is just ... sooooooooooooo good.

It's the best "action" Star Wars movie IMO since Return of the Jedi. Some of it (a lot of it) is basically "well fans want to see this", but hey I don't mind, lol.  

I can agree with that. The space battle at the end of the movie is probably the best single action set-piece in the saga. 

Really really really loved Rogue One! It's definitely different from the other Star Wars movies, and I don't know if it's better than TFA...but it was great!

I enjoyed it, was a good film, slumped here and here but the ending section was great. I'd say it felt like a Star Wars film, while Ep 7 felt like some weird fan film.

Also, and most jarring, is no matter how CG a cartoon Peter Cushing looks, the voice was completely off. Plus questionable in my view.

I guess i was the only one impressed by the quality of the CG models. I could hardly tell they were CG. The grand moff was noticeable because he had alot of shots, but Leia i thought was a lookalike until i was told it was CG. So, i think there alot of exageration on some of those critics. Those were amazing CG models.

Why do you assume that was the same ship? The point of those scenes were to say how the plans miraculously passed from hand to hand in order to deliver hope to the galaxy. 

They should have just left Tarkin and Leia and others out of the equation. The technology just isn't there. They're not fooling anyone. It's completely immersion breaking, especially for someone who knows those faces and voices by heart. Leia was the worst, as it's essentially the last thing you see before the credits roll. Also, let us use our imagination. We don't need to see Leia receive the plans by hand and then blast off into hyperspace on Tantive IV. We can put two and two together.

I get that it's a prequel, but the filmmakers aren't doing themselves any favors by trading in nostalgia at the expense of the here and now. Rogue One was a chance to expand the Star Wars universe. By remaining so dependent on Episodes III and IV, it felt more like a contraction.

Thank goodness your opinion is just part of the vast minority. Fans loved having tarkin and Leia included in this movie And to say "they're not fooling anyone" Is a bit weird as nobody was going to think anything else but they were cgi, One of the actors is dead and the other is old now, they wasn't trying to fool anyone you're being far to fussy and need to lighten up a bit.

They were just bringing amazing moments to the movie to tie it in perfectly for episode IV and the vast majority of fans loved Princess Leia and tarkin being included. 

Leia worked for me, but it was a very quick shot and I wasn't quite expecting so my brain was kinda quickly trying to process everything happening.

But with Tarkin, he had way too much screen time I think, and once you let people look at a CG character long enough, they'll start to notice flaws.

That said for me it didn't really radically alter my enjoyment of the film.

The one character that looked perfect to me was the X-Wing pilot from the old movies, was that CG too? How did they do that, because that character looked seamless to me.

On the first point, I noticed that Vader's voice was deeper, as well, James Earl Jone has aged and his voice is generally deeper. It didn't quite either.

The nostalgia thing is still present sadly, they need to get over that and just make the films. You know the 2 people Obi-wan has a fight with in the Mos Eisley were in it for like 2 seconds? Why? What's the point?

Eitherway, the way they connected it to Ep4 was nice but I kind of wish they would make a Star Wars film not revolving around the rise and fall of the Empire and make a film just set in the Star Wars world.

I liked the the first and final act...the middle lagged a bit.
Also I thought some of the characters didn't grab me (just my opinion but I didn't find them that likable, and say what you want about tfa at least it had likable characters as well as a mix of new and old ones)...also in terms of plot some of the characters didn't need to be in it at all.
At first I thought the movie was gonna be totally different to any previous Star Wars movie but by the end it became typical sw final battle antics (not that theres anything wrong with that!)...I always thought it was gonna be like a heist movie or a Kelly's Heroes in space type movie. Overall I liked it a lot despite its flaws. I still think there's something more likable about tfa, but this is a great start to the whole tie in movies thing...also I'd really like to see Gareth Edwards helm another spinoff or even an actual 'episode' movie.
