Yes. It just proves that FF13 sucked so bad that it killed Yakuza, too.

LMAO!

Dammit, I missed you Badgenome! xD

How can you expect for game to sell millions when where is only about 3-4m PS4 there.

I think the problem lies in reduced attach rates, which have declined noticeably in Japan since Gen 5 even though they've declined in the West (note that current-gen attach rates are low because the generation is only three years old; attach rates for a given system increase over time):

Since hardware sales in Japan have declined since Gen 5, that means software sales for home consoles have declined at a faster rate than hardware sales have. Combined Gen 7 software sales were just over half combined Gen 5 software sales. Last generation, only two PS3 games sold over a million copies in Japan, and one of them was FFXIII, the best-selling game for the system. The Wii had more million-plus sellers (and New Super Mario Bros Wii is the second best-selling console game ever in Japan after the original SMB), but the PS3's superior third-party support is probably why its attach rate was better.

So, it's perhaps no coincidence that Final Fantasy's fortunes have declined seemingly in tandem with the fortunes of the console market.

Thanks man. Do you have a blog or something? I love your charts! vgCHARTs should hire you.

No. I think the mentality that each FF is different meant that while sequels would be the same (the reason FF13-2 and 3 would never do as well as FF13), the next iteration of FF would be different so you can dislike one and really like the next. I think sadly however, moving FFvs13 to be FF15, the delay (development time) and the choice in gameplay for FF and changes in market in Japan and releasing 1 week after Pokemon may have affected things.

Get FF16 out in decent time, release it at a time not conflicting with another major franchise and make it more 'traditional' and the sales could be as high as previous entries again.

Hmm, pie.

I doubt FF13 had nearly the negative impact on the series in Japan that some people are claiming.

FF13 was pretty well liked over there, for one thing. The spin-offs were different styles, as well. If people didn't want to play them then they just ignored them.

As the numbered Final Fantasy games are usually unique worlds with new characters and game-play schemes, previous versions will have less impact on subsequent versions and the spin-offs even less.

People are just going to have to face the fact that a large number of consumers simply didn't have much interest in FF15. Square tried hard to make FF15 into an amalgam of things that are popular in Japan instead of being FINAL FANTASY and I think it backfired.

Final Fantasy 15 isn't very Final Fantasy, which is really what hurt the game the most.

Japan is a dead market. That's the reason.

I don't think so I mean look at the wii u sales and to it's 3rd party games sales they are far from good and I honestly don't think the reason for ff-5 poor sales is ff13 I just think that the ff franchise went very far from its core which trurn based rpg with a world full of fantasies. And I don't think japaness gamer except changes easily

I want a Final Fantasy 16. A fresh start, new faces, new characters, a dedicated team that's given the freedom in return for clear goals and solid concepts.

A Final Fantasy game that's not bogged down by different directors, mixed visions, HD development obstacles, and arbitrary deadlines for what's supposed to be one the most popular jRPGs of all time.

While everyone likes to take the piss on FF13, me included, it was actually in 18 months, they didn't have anything playable when it was announced in 2006, linearity wasn't a part of the game's vision but was a result of the time constraints. I don't know why Toriyama takes all the blame. He worked with what he had and what he was given by SE, not to mention, the PS3 HD development was very hard for first and third parties alike.

FF14 is an amazing game now, but one has to wonder why Yoshida didn't take over earlier, the game had multiple betas and the negative feedback was ignored until the game was officially released and flopped critically. After people already spent money their money it, SE decided to react. Had SE sent Yoshida to the rescue earlier, the game would've been even more successful and Yoshida would've probably been working a new project by now.

FF15 dirction change is clear to everyone, and yet, another FF with someone new at the helmet to supposedly get someone's else game done right. A baggage Tabata had to carry, and instead of focusing entirely on what he wanted the game to be, he had to spend energy trimming what he thought was fat. That doesn't scream "lazer-focused" to me and it's no wonder the word "disjointed" and its synonyms are in almost every review I read or watched.

So yeah, a fresh start is needed, that definitely is not happening with another remake andother remaster. Not to mention, FF15 free updates and paid DLCs have yet to be released. So it's safe to assume a new FF title isn't not on the horizon. I hope I am wrong.
