curl-6 is just looking for the excuse he needs for a divorce.

But that's not going to happen. The sheep will be welcomed back to the herd in 2017, Switch purchase included.

You know what, if BotW does come out on Wii U, I probably will get a Switch.

The main reason I don't plan to at the moment is because I don't feel I can trust Nintendo. If they kept their word on BotW, a lot of that trust would be restored.

This is a huge part of the reason why Nintendo keep making some pretty poor decisions for their fanbase; they know that a significant portion will buy their hardware and software regardless. I've stopped buying games from certain publishers myself, due to their policies and anti-consumer stances, I also refuse to buy hardware produced by certain manufacturers for the same reason (not buying phones from Apple or Samsung, for instance, staying away from most Microsoft products as well, Windows in the only I have).

Then it's settled. You'll buy a Switch at launch because BotW will release sooner and better for it, and because Switch will have new 3D Mario, new this, new that, and more.

He didn't say at launch :P

And I wouldn't advise it unless the games you want are at launch.  That's always been my philosophy, no matter how neat the hardware looks.

Perhaps I should rephrase; if BotW comes out on Wii U, I will consider getting a Switch. I won't just get one out of sheer gratitude, it will still have to earn my purchase on its own merits.

I too refuse to buy from companies whose behaviour I don't like, hence why I don't a PS4 or Xbox One, and hence why if BotW doesn't come to Wii U I'll never buy another Nintendo product again.

I'm not one of those who'll complain about a company's actions then support them anyway.

If it did, you wouldn't hear anything from me; I'd be banned.

At this point though, I just really can't see it happening. If Nintendo won't even support Wii U for its last six months, I find it hard to believe they'd release a major game on it months after its replacement. Especially given the apparent trouble they're having getting BotW to run well on Wii U.

they could always do digital or even limited print run release. Even I'm finding it hard to believe that they would just scrap the whole Wii U version altogether

I'd be happy with even a digital only release.

Whether it's cancelled or not, I definitely think it will be digital only. They won't waste money on a physical copy run for a system they already stopped producing.

I think there may be a silver lining to the bad Switch news today. If they can be bothered to get it running on a 150gflop handheld, then I don't see they are going to cancel the WiiU version because of "technical issues".

If it's anything at all then it's retail version cancelled in Japan.

While I was never one to doubt the game is coming to Wii U, this should at least put people at ease. IF the rumors are true about the Switch, then it really wouldn't be far off from the Wii U in portable mode, which gives people less reason to think about technical reasons of it being cancelled on Wii U.

I'm not convinced; when we last saw the Wii U version it was still running poorly, while the Switch version shown shortly later ran smoothly.
Also, in light of Nintendo apparently recalling Wii U stock still months out from Switch's release I find it less and less believable they would release a major game on Wii U after its replacement is out.

That's good to hear, I wish more consumers would use their power to subdue companies by not jumping on everything they make in spite of negative impact on or treatment of end users.

Nintendo released the GameCube version of Twilight Princess about a month after the the Wii launched, so I have no doubt that they would release the Wii U version of Breath of the Wild.

The difference is that TP on Gamecube never seemed to be struggling to run on it. I'm also not convinced that Nintendo's actions a decade ago mean they'll act the same way today.
