Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Yooka-Laylee launches April 11th, Wii U version cancelled, most likely coming to Switch

"We feel the Wii U is no longer a thriving platform, and are therefore moving development to the more promising Switch." I mean, would that be any less insulting than what they came up with?

What a joke, it would of sold better on the U than the other platforms, this type of game belongs on a Nintendo platform, it will be on the Switch but i wont be buying one.

Its not 2013/14 anymore, even Nintendo's exclusive are doing poorly on Wii U. The systems core audience has adopted other platforms and if they haven't already they will do in 2017 unless they intend to quit mordern gaming.

The team will not loose out on many sales by cancelling the U version, those who want the game will simply buy it on another system whether it be the Switch, PS4, PC or Xbox One. Additionally the WIi U version would certainly be the most costly, time consuming port and the Switch version of the game is the real goldmine in 2017, the sooner they can get it out on the platform the better.

I mean, it's a clear buisness move, it can't be helped, the WiiU is dead, the earlier the games get cancelled for Wii U, the better for the devs/Switch

Wasn't expecting the £35 price tag but anyway I'm glad I backed it at £15 kinda feels like I'm getting it almost for free :D

Frustrating. It really shakes my faith in kickstarter and the indie scene in general. What made indies so important is that they weren't supposed to do crap like this. It was supposed to be my last Wii U game before I retired from Nintendo.

Retire? Are you getting other platform? What is it?

Well that's mighty lame. I wonder if this was the reason it was delayed.

Zelda BotW, don't do it too!

This is quite the backstabbing for all the Wii U backers that didn't want to upgrade right away or clearly can't afford another system to play on like poor little me :'(

Well okay. They better announce it for Switch then. Because I want to play it so hard, collect-o-thon games like Yooka are rare birds these days. Would help keeping the momentum following March release too.

If Nintendo want to satisfy there current wiiu install base

But they don't, lol.  They want you to buy a Switch.

Sucks for those....who have those systems ONLY I guess.

It's not even really a case of that, sometimes you just like playing on a certain system over others.  I own a PS4 & PC but any visual novel or turn-based game would be something I'd much prefer to play on Vita.

Yep, I can play it on PC with better graphics but I would rather play it on my WiiU and have the chance to use the Off-TV. Oh well...

The issue I have seen for many Kickstarter games is they base model on present rather than 4 years off when game releases. I backed a game for PS4 before the system came out and it may come out next year. Feel bad for Wii U backers.
