Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I have to say this about pokemon...

man do i hope pokemon stars is real, and in some fashion a SERIOUS upgrade, because it feels like sun and moon was "envisioned" for a bigger scale but was limited to the 3ds, taking serious steps backward, but gamefreak said "oh well, lets go ahead and scale it down for now, sell millions, then put the real game on the Switch". I understand i might be the odd one out, but as a fan since red and blue, this new entry is the worst of them all, without a doubt for me.

Pros:
Rid of HM moves
New pokemon are cool
A little bit (just barely) more challenging than Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire
easier to train and level up for competitive play involving IV's and EV's

Cons:
Way to linear
No side / extra missions like pokemon contests, safari zone etc
too many cut scenes
feels to much like a loooong episode of the cartoon, pointless dialogue and pokemon "chirping"
worst soundtrack in the series
worst story in the series
fishing is over simplified (only 1 kind of Rod so magikarp appear often)
however, can only fish in dedicated places
hardly any double battles in game, no triple battles Collapse

I've played since blue red and have gotten everyone main pokemon game except for black and white. So that's my resume of pokemon games.

My take is that it's eh, but also I good with all the new introductions. I sort of feel jaded about pokemon at this point. I just like that it takes a departure from the gym leader formula. But the only thing I have to say about the sour taste you find with sun and moon is that: if these games came after silver and gold, I think I would have been very happy with sun and moon. I think I've become very jaded about the game. I've played so much pokemon that it just becomes a chore to play, but I can't give it up. There's no more excitement for me about pokemon. Just something I can't give up.

I'm sort of the same... I played a lot of Fire Red and Crystal when I was younger and a little bit of emerald, then when I was around 10 picked up Pearl but didn't play that so much... in fact I think I only got up to getting the 7th badge. Then I got Black a little after that came out, and while I kept thinking it was a great pokemon game... I only got up to like.. the 4th or 5th badge before I just stopped.

I guess I'm just tired of Pokemon. I still feel like I want to play the newer ones but I just never get round to it, and I'm pretty sure if I start I won't finish.

as a PS fan.... if Nintendo put Pokemon on the Switch, i will buy first day.

I'd argue the bolded points, the cutscenes are part of the story and aren't THAT common, the game is as far from the Anime as it could be, you have companions, yes, but they are hardly ever following you, and the plot is one of the best in the series imho. the soundtrack depends on your musical taste but I find it one of the best too !

As someone who used to live in Hawaii, I'm really impressed on the inspiration of Alola. The music reflects the atmosphere and it shows the influence from Hawaii.

How is it hold back in your opinion, your cons all could have been made different on 3DS. So what do you expect be different on Switch?

Hope for pokemon Stars:

treat it like Black and White 2:

-Expand the map and world

-change the soundtrack respectfully as a sequel

- go back to gyms or at least 8 khahunas with more challenging trials

- bring back safari zone and pokemon contests

- add more alola style pokemon

-add more interesting battles (double, triple, rotational, etc)

- (SPOILER) make the elite 4 NOT the khahuna

- make the story bigger and more threatning, at least like  x,y,ruby and sapphire, even DPP (SPOILER)

(we know the ultra beast were let loose but saw no type of chaos or effect from it)

- if possible allow me to travel freely, and not constantly being blocked by some random telling me i can't go this way..

- increase the variety of wild pokemon (to many of the same ones are found all through out the wild of the islands)

Have to agree with no more chirping. I love my mudsdale but mudbray neighing can go do die in a hole.
