Nice to see Microsoft closing the gap.

What? The difference is only growing.

That is mathematically impossible.

VGChartz shows PS4 with a 22 million console lead over the Xbox One.  20 million is smaller than 22 million.  That means the gap is closing.

I think we got numbers from Microsoft in September that 22 million Xbox Ones had "shipped". By now, it's probably 25 million shipped. While PS4 is around 52 million shipped. It has a 27 million lead already.

VGC's hardware numbers aren't up-to-date. And simple math will tell you that, for the gap to decrease, one has to start beating the other. That hasn't happened at any point in the generation.

The gap used to be 22 million.  If the gap decreases to 20 million, it has gotten smaller.  It doesn't get much simpler than that.

Um, it does. You can't close a gap without beating the competition. When was the last time the Xbox One beat the PS4 worldwide? And, again, VGC's hardware numbers are not accurate. The PS4, for example, was undertracked before Sony ever made the 50 million unit announcement. That's how simple it is.

I appreciate your input, but I think I'll go with the (paid) analyst's thoughts on this one.

Nope, EA and Ubisoft's estimates had combined PS4 + XBO sales to be 55 million units by the end of 2015. Sony revealed that the PS4 sold about 36 million units by that time. Therefore, the XBO sold approximately 19 million units, making the gap 17 million. If the gap is 20 million, then the gap increased by 3 million. The gap is not closing.

However, it is likely that the gap is larger than 20 million and closer to 25 million. Refer to this post of mine earlier in the thread.

Kick em while they're down. 😞

I appreciate your input as well, but until your information is published on a repuatable website as DFC's was, I think I'll go with what the professionals have to say.
