Forums - Gaming Discussion - PewDiePie At 50 Million Subscribers

I really hope he sticks to his word to delete his channel now. He's so annoying.

He's not shutting up shop and going away. He's just basically wiping the slate clean and creating a new channel so that his number of subscribers more accurately reflects the number of views his videos get.

So you were never going to get your wish. Besides, I have no idea if he's annoying or not, because I don't watch. If you think he's annoying, just don't watch. But don't begrudge him making a living doing youtube if he is providing entertainment to a bunch of people who like his stuff. If I knew I could make good money doing that sort thing I'd quit my job today and do it.

But I didn't tell him to delete his channel. I just said I hope he does it. There's a difference.

I know a lot of people like his channel. I think I still have the right to say I wish he deleted his channel, and I don't think it's in bad taste either. Now if I actually had the power to delete his channel and I did, that would be in extremely bad taste - and I know I wouldn't do it. The way I see is that wishing him to delete his channel is just a strong expression of opinion. It's probably not an expression I would use if I knew he was listening because it's not constructive in any way, but because he's not listening, there's no need for my opinion to be constructive.

Well I personally don't really see how it would change anything based on whether he was listening or not since in the end of both you're still saying you hope he deletes his channel, but I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on that one.

And yeah dude, everyone has the right say whatever they want lol. If you truly dislike his content enough to where you would want him to delete his channel entirely because of it, then sure I guess it's just a strong expression of your opinion. Your fully entitled to think however you want, just like how some people do like his content and don't want him to shut his channel down.

I'm not trying to say you have no right to think that or hope that he deletes his channel, I just think anyone simply saying "Delete your channel" offers nothing and isn't really valid criticism as it's a pointless phrase, it says nothing about why that person doesn't like him or his content. But I know you weren't simply saying delete his channel, so it's whatever.

It really is just a matter of opinion in the end. The way I see it is just that if I dislike something, as much as I might dislike it I can still see that other people like it, so I personally think of it as "Well they can go ahead and like it then, but i'm not gonna watch it".

Yeah, looks like we're going to have to agree to disagree. I can totally see why my stance on this can be seen as, um, controversial though.

I think I don't actually mind his channel existing, it's more about running into news about him. I guess my dislike is so strong that even reading about him annoys me. Solution? No channel, no more news! I don't know if that's really true, but it's the only explanation I can come up with, and it feels like it has at least a bit of truth to it. Generally my stance on things I don't like is the same as yours (or at least I think so), but for some reason it's different in this case.

I know that. I just said that to some guy earlier in this thread... I've also been having, you know, a bit of a discussion about my stance on this whole thing here, because someone pointed out pretty much the same thing you did. You can read it all right here, in this thread.

I love it. He's telling Youtube that they're not infallible with their algorithmic changes and constant anti-content creator acts. One that particularly gets to me is denying Philip DeFranco from being on Youtube Rewind for not supporting a Presidential Candidate. Youtube is just shooting itself in the foot lately and Pewdiepie is sticking his neck for his fellow creators and for that I can't denounce what he's doing.

Did that really happen, or is that just something circulating in the fake news sphere? The only thing I've seen is Phil saying ad re3venue is being lost because of Youtube's ad-friendly content policy. And of course a stoush over youtubers endorsing candidates in an oiverly aggressive manner, which I've not read any punishment being directed to Phil over that issue.

I've never watched a video of him but know well of his exploits, the man is a genius who has become a multi-multi millionaire from Youtube, there are many thousands of Hollywood actors who will go their whole lives and never be a part of a cast as costly as Pewdiepie's earnings.

Massive respect for him playing the game not unlike the way John Cena has done in the WWE, if you're buying a "I hate Cena" or "lets go Cena" tshirt from wwe.com it's all Merch sales for the one guy, it's the exact same when "haters" watch his videos and leave him negative comments, they're all feeding into those millions of dollars he gets.

Youtube Genius, regardless of the "quality" of his content, it is content which is worth many Millions of dollars.

Funny you'd say this. I never watch Let's play videos so I never cared for PDP content.

One day, a bunch of his haters decided to crucify him here on vgc and they posted this video:

View on YouTube

To me, he sounded like a genuinely nice guy in that particular video. Months later, I subbed to his channel (today) to help him achieve the 50m subs milestone after reading the news about how close he is, all thanks to the haters showing me a personal video of him in which he was talking in rational terms

It happens so often people don't even realize but when you go on a rant about something on the internet you are likely to introduce him to people who do not follow his content already, I mean the guy is so popular now it would make sense that if you know about him... you know about him, if you understand me. Creating a thread on here about him being a dick or whatever, if people know of PDP then they're not going to be influenced by it, because they'll already have made up their mind and wont be swayed by some hack channel trying to get some of his view dollars. But someone like yourself will see the video and maybe check him out, so yeah, haters just spreading his videos and content around are fanning the flames that they would love to put out.

Idiots going to idiot!

Edit - Sorry if this is a bit in coherant, hypoglycemic atm, need to find sugar!

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Hope he deletes it. Shit got over his head. Crying like a little bitch over loosing subscribers.

Good lord, posts like these are just embarassing. These are the types of posts that I would expect to be see in the Youtube comment section.

Even if you don't like him or his content, nobody has EVER forced any of you to watch it. If you think he's annoying, then what's so hard about just ignoring his channel instead of hoping he deletes it just because you don't like him or his content.

This is the exact same thing as if someone told you that they hope you get banned on this website because they don't like how you post or something. Or saying that you hope a certain person can never find work because you don't like them or something.

I don't even watch his content a lot, I did a years ago but I grew sort of bored of it, but I wouldn't say that I hope he deletes his channel or anything, since he EARNED the amount of subscribers that he has so people do like his content for a reason.

Not to mention that he said he was doing this for a good reason as well, which is to go against Youtube's policies that have been affecting Youtubers for a while, but yet all you can do is STILL focus on "YES! I didn't like him so i'm glad he's deleting it!".

I truly hope you can reflect on what you wrote here, because that is an absolutely horrible kind of attitude to have about something or someone. "I don't like this thing so I hope it dissapears".  If that was the way the world worked then most things, maybe even everything at all wouldn't even exist because there's always someone that doesn't like something, hence different opinions.

Even if he deletes it he said he was gonna start a second channel to get rid of the dead weight from his old channel that are subscribed but don't watch his videos or log in anymore, so then you can just ignore that channel as well.

(As a side note, i've never been moderated on this site so far and i've seen people get moderated just for simply writing something such as the word salty and even much less, so if I get my first one for pointing out the embarassing ridiculousness of certain posts like this then that's even more insane, but so be it).

It's hard to ignore him when you see news about him or get his videos recommended on youtube. I actually only saw a small amount of videos of his, but when I see someone crying over a slight drop of subscribers it really shows what kind of person that is. He probably did work hard (playing video games all day long) to archive where he is....

I wouldn't be suprised if that happened from time to time :) You have to learn to deal with criticism.

That's an obvious exaggeration and generalization towards one 3 sentence statement by me. I just don't like people who think they are entitled to make money out of other companies products without their agreement. By now they are certains deals between Pewdiepie and publishers to promote their games. But if a company don't want him to make money out of their products he starts to rant for thinking he is entitled to do so. Angry Joe is a really good example for this where he even didn't let his Let's play video of Mario Kart 8 and Mario Party 9 on youtube for free.

If someone is passioniate about doing something, he mostly does it for free. If he gets paid for it without asking for money, than that's ok. But if he starts crying that he gets less than before, he is a crying b*****.

@bolded: As I said earlier in this thread, that is a big assumption to make when you don't know how much work it would have taken him to build up a Youtube channel, it's not just about what content he provides. If it's so easy according to you then you try and do it. So many people wanna try to say "Oh but anyone can record themselves screaming while playing video games" in regards to PewDiePie or any Youtuber that plays videogames or something along those lines but yet I don't see any of them trying it if it's apparently so easy. As I said earlier in this thread, he didn't just snap his fingers and automatically have 50 million subscribers, he had to work towards that for years with tons of videos. Even if you see it as "Well all he did was play videogames", that's still a lot of time and effort into making videos to grow his channel.

Also i'm not generalizing anything, i'm saying that I think the attitude of saying "I hope he deletes his channel because I personally don't like it despite the fact that other people do" is not a good one to have. Sure, i'll agree it might sound like a bit of an overreaction in the way I wrote it but my point still stands there, but you're entitled to think whatever you want so honestly it's whatever, i'm not gonna try to tell you that you can't think a certain way because you're entitled to feel however you wanna feel, and that's fine. I just personally don't see that as a good type of attitude to have about something.

Even if he does delete his channel I think he already said he was just planning on making a second one anyway.

LOL at all the 30 year old men in here hating. i don't watch his stuff but I'm not bitter.

Saying stuff like you would judge someone watching it while you are writing in a gaming forum is hypocritical.

Agreed, I don't watch his stuff but the hatred towards him in this thread is sad.
