It will also outsell Snes in terms of Software Sales within a week or two. Strangely it has already has beaten 3ds Software sales considerably, not sure why 3ds is such a software dud, I never viewed it as such.

But the first console it's going to have even a chance of not beating is the Wii. I expect it will though. The generation will finish with the top 3 selling home consoles of all time being PlayStation.

Well software sales on dedicated hanhelds has been going down a lot.

3DS is a lot lower than the DS. And you'd expect Switch to continue the pattern.

What a surprise? hah fair comparison! You are doing this all the time and do you know what infuriates me? I haven't seen you making the same comparison with PS3 and PS2. Do you remember how much ds has sold?

The right thing is to compare their attach ratios since there is so much discrepancy in hardware sales...

3DS is on par with GBA software, and GB in the same time frame...

Handhelds sell much less software, go look at the others as well and you'll realize it.

Yeah that's the norm... Best example is PS2 and DS!

Also barkley what is 3ds? It just doesn't have really any third party support, only a few japanese major third party games...

At least, the number of 10m+ sellers isn't small...

Nothing suggests that sort of decline... apart from every major home console ever released. Unless PS4 manages to be the first console in history to keep it's first three year pace for almost 6 straight years, it's not going to happen.

In the first three years after the PS3 launched, the PS2 sold roughly 35 million units. The PS3 has managed to sell 13 in comparison. The PS4 is going to have to either be the first console in history to keep it's first three year sales level for 5-6 years, or it's going to have to sell at PS2 levels post PS5. Either way, that's asking alot.

No, not apart from every major home console release. What you're doing is selective. You can't just look at one trend and call it a day. The PS4 is not going to suddenly stop selling just after three years (and hardly anyone, if anyone, said it would do another 50 million in the same time frame). To get to 100m lifetime, it doesn't have to keep the same pace (the suggestion, in fact, is silly - not sure how you got there) and without anything but wishful thinking, you can't currently point at a slouch that suggests the system has already peaked, either. For all anyone knows, 2017 could be just that.

So, as noted, nothing suggests the decline you expect.

I based my prediction on the precedent set over the last 30 years. If that ends up wrong, ok. But if I'm a betting man, I always take the field. Always.

The last 30 years haven't always gone the same way. So you be a betting man or not doesn't really matter.

If I'm wrong, I guess you can bookmark my predictions and tell me how wrong I was in 3 years too if it's important to you. haha

Lol wut.

The difference is Playstation is growing again. Meanwhile handhelds are plummeting.

DS + PSP ---> Vita + 3DS

And I'm pretty sure the next gen (Switch)  declines again.

Whether you like it or not dedicated handhelds are a lot less healthy then home consoles.

yeah .... Heldheld are fickle...REAL gamers...generally ignore them...and stick to their smart phones....which to be honest if gonna be the biggest market for games in the near future...

And nintendo switch....for nintendo sake....they better go all out...because...first impressions most people seem to be meh about...

(which would make a good poll btw...)

I'd be more inclined to encourage you to be a little more open-minded, at that point. :)

Open minded to what exactly? We're talking about how many pieces of plastic will sell in a given timeframe. It's not philosphy. I'm not invested in the outcome.

I don't lump handhelds and consoles together, so I think it'll end up behind PS2, PS1 and Wii for forth place. I don't see it getting 100 million in sales.

I'll start cooking thr crow!  Ps4 will pass 100m.

Well with the revival of Crash Bandicoot it just might.

Very likely. Don't see it hitting 160M but see it hitting over 105M (120M IMO) so yeah, second best selling console, third gaming system overall.

And that in a time  some gamers and " analyst" believed  pc gaming  would  kill consoles and this  genn would suck.

Ps4  already  beat the ps3 in its library of games in my opinion, and next year its going  to massacre  it.

Lol

Personally, I'd say that the PS3's lineup is easily way better than the PS4's. There are about 10x as many games that I'd want to play on the PS3.

Well, this gen does suck, Sony themselves said that PS4 Pro is to defend against PC, the situation is similar to 6th gen where all the sales are only on one manufacturer, the consoles are HW wise PC's and sales are heavily down from last generation. So, yes, all signs point that the gamers and analysts were correct.

I thought so too that PS3 had a horrible library.

Wait what...... you didnt like the PS2? that gen was kinda epic.

Sales wont be "heavily" down from last generation.

I consider the Switch, the same gen as the PS4 & XB1. Since its gonna spend the next 3 years competing against them.

Its too early to tell, maybe the switch is another Wii in terms of sales?

Not only the sales will be heavily down at the end of the gen, they also are at the moment. The seventh gen was roughly 500M units on hardware sales, while home consoles alone accounted for something between 250 and 300M. Of course, the software sales were especially high because of this (actually, it's the other way around).

Why do you consider Switch the same gen with PS4 and XB1 and not PS4P and XB1S as the same gen as Switch? I mean it's clearly a generational change with everyone releasing new hardware. Even if so, if Switch starts flying off of the shelves, we're going to see PS5 and XB2 in 2018 anyway.

The sixth gen was so epic that I decided to quit gaming halfway though the gen, but then came the seventh that changed my mind (now the gen8 was a similar disaster with six, and I'm cautiously waiting for the ninth if it would follow the seventh).
