Well, this gen does suck, Sony themselves said that PS4 Pro is to defend against PC, the situation is similar to 6th gen where all the sales are only on one manufacturer, the consoles are HW wise PC's and sales are heavily down from last generation. So, yes, all signs point that the gamers and analysts were correct.

I thought so too that PS3 had a horrible library.

Im gonna be surprised if the PS4 doesnt end up around 120m range.
So its gonna outsell alot of other systems out there.

Wait what...... you didnt like the PS2? that gen was kinda epic.

 

Sales wont be "heavily" down from last generation.

I consider the Switch, the same gen as the PS4 & XB1. Since its gonna spend the next 3 years competing against them.

Its too early to tell, maybe the switch is another Wii in terms of sales?

On the march to being the best selling console of all time. We should be talking about it passing the Wii by this time in 2018. Then it really depends on what they decide to do when 7nm fabrication becomes viable. Will we see a PS4 Ultra or will are they going to call it PS5? I am betting we see an even more powerful PS4 in 2019 or 2020, and that will drive the sales of the PS4 Home products over 200M. That is not to even diving into PS4 Laptops, Portables, and Mobile devices.

So what? The original PlayStation did it first. With how big the industry is now it's not that hard to pass 49 million units.

First things first.... die shrink of the PS4 :p

and maybe a 149$ version of the PS4slim by then (2019/2020)?

I think the playstation 5 will be BC, however I think it ll have its own exclusives.... either that, or the PS4 will run all PS5 games at like 540p :p

I'm not sure we can fairly compare them going forward given even this new Pro is considered a "PS4". Releasing more powerful models as the years go on is a departure from how consoles once worked, and it seems like it will artificially inflate totals.

That doesn't apply here obviously, but I'm just looking down the road; are we basing our counts purely on name and not the hardware itself? For instance, will the Scorpio count towards the Xbox1 given it is mostly to the xbox1 what the pro is to the PS4?

Personally think they should be counted separately.

PS4 Pro is a PS4, not a new console with its own exclusives. Why would it "artificially inflate" totals, Sony just announced most buyers of the Pro are new owners. Besides the format has been invented for a few years now with the New 3DS.
