Forums - Sales Discussion - PS4 passes 300M software sales according to VGChartz!

Global Software by Platform

PlatformWeekly (change)Total
PS4 3,928,524 (-23%) 301,418,351
XOne 1,784,669 (-29%) 153,239,568
3DS 673,159 (+31%) 249,734,369

You can see the the milestown was passed on the latest update. Obviously not 100% accurate but they're likely within 10% margin of error which is decent.

Congrats PS4, the dirst and so far only current gen console to pass this mark at retail!

Is this retail only ?

Sony gave a figure just a couple of days ago, 370 million I think it was. (including digital)

That's a very impressive number. They'll be hitting 400m including digital this year. Half a billion easily next year. Great times for Sony.

But yeah VGChartz estimates will onbviously only included retail.

If we are to assume that these numbers are remotely accurate (a very big if) then going off sonys numbers of 370M which includes digital sales, it kinda puts digital sales at around 20% of physical sales.

Which in truth is less compared to physical sales cause there are a lot of digital only games on the store that people buy too.

My guess is that VGC has the software numbers highly overtracked or the alternative being that digital sales for games that also have a physical release are around only 10-15% of sales.

Huge number! Congrats Sony you did a fantastic job with the PS4 line-up!

Yeah the PS4 is the software king of this generation....

It's most likely outsold the WiiU & 3DS combined already... (including digital)

Most reports we see put digital at 10 to 15% for retail games indeed. So it's probably a reasonably accurate data. Mind that a lot of people don't have great internet connections or have data caps and most games are over 30 GB.

Retail also allows you to resell the game and you get a nice boxed game. It's also easier to delete games to make room for new ones since you can just pop the older disc to reinstall it instead of downloading it again.

As retails and digital prices are basically the same, I don't see a lot of advantages in going digital only since you're losing a part of the ownership over the product.

Yh, all true.

I'm all digital. Though thats more due to nessecity than a preference. Where i Live i literally have to import everything. So buying a gsme off amazon would go like this. Game release> Buy at $60 and ship to forwarding address> ship from there to the carribeans +$8 (2 days) > pay 60% on duties and tax + $30+> get my game home.

So every game will cost me around $90-$100 by the time it's all said and done and even if I buy on launch day I still end up getting the game at least 3-7 days later.

With digital, I just pay the $60 and even preload the game so it becomes available to play the second it's launched.

We already know the official number of 370m.
