Oh, that's right.  If I remember correctly, that was a much weaker statement than they gave last year.

Couldn't help but smile at that.

Yet Sony didn't say they were the best selling console on BF. Don't you think they would point that out if true?

With Sony you got a 50/50 shot that they'll mention it.  With MS, especially with the comeback kid narrative they are trying to push, 100% they would have said something.

No.  I don't think I remember them doing that before.  They did however state that the Black Friday that just passed was the biggest in PlayStation history.   We don't really know what this means for each region but if it hold true we would have to basically know what it biggest Black Friday in the US for PlayStation was and then say at least plus 1.  Any PS2 data out there?

So PS4 will be around 55 Million by the end of the year? 2017 is looking even better!

Isn't this the 3rd upgrade of the console?

so we think it is going to do 50 mil from now in 3 years?

Second upgrade. And yeah, PS4 should easily reach 100 Million+.

PS4 should be around 55 Million by the end of the year.  Safe to assume 2017 will have another 20 Million sold, with GT Sport, Crash Collection, Horizon, GoW + a possible price cut.

If Sony launches the PS5 in 2018 (very unlikely), PS4 will need another 20 Million in 2018 and 2019, which wouldn't be hard to reach, with the developing markets, price cut boosts YoY, and games like TLoU2, Death Stranding, KH3, FF7 Remake giving sales spikes.

You know what I never liked? Microsoft pushing the "we're number 1 in sales" mentality all the time. they just barely beat PS4 in America, sure, but PS4 beats Xbox One in virtually every other country in the world.

I actually WANT Xbox to do better, since they have a lot of things I like (The controller, in particular), but I'm just tired of their deceptive marketing. They have need of an asterisk and related caveat next to every claim.

"Xbox One! The best selling console for the last four months"
*(If you only count the one country where it's doing that and not any others)"

Either PS finally feels like they are so comfortable up top right now that they no longer feel the need to nit pick when it comes to all the little "who's the man" jabs.
Or
The numbers were so close that PS feels like even if they won, boasting about it really wouldn't look all that good on them. Also possibly some self restraint/control about getting to cocky like with PS2.

The fact that they are leaving the price of PS4 at $249 in NA, makes me think sales were tight in that region.

It's not really deceptive. They really were the "best selling" console in the last 4 months. Best selling means for that time being. Just like a new Harry Potter book would be the best selling book at that time. Not the best selling of all time. Xbox makes those PR statements at NPD where only North America is counted. It's unfair to bring the other countries in IF we're only discussing NPD. It's not deceptive at all.

Sony is always releasing retail + digital data combined for PS4 software sales.

I know, but he left out the digital part as if he was trying to say that all those 369.9m sales are physical sales
