Forums - Sales Discussion - Media create sales week 48! Final Fantasy XV opens with just 690k, PS4 hardware sales increase a lot!

Wasn't this the #1 most requested and pre ordered game since 2006? How did it debut with 690k?

A good opening for FFXV all things considered. And word of mouth seems to be better than XIII, let's hope this one has better legs.

Was that Japan only or WW?

Pocky Lover Boy!

Did they restock the Pro? It was flying off the shelves I heard and want to see that confirmed.

Ps4 outselling Wii U 25:1 this week. That ratio! Crazy to think many last year didn't think the ps4 would take the #1 console spot in 2016.

FFXV just over 700k retail if you include the special editions sold in non gaming stores. With digital it's probably over 800k FW. May hit a million lifetime.

Thankfully ROTW sales are making up for the japanese decline. Good to see FFXV overall hold strong after the mess that was FF13 and the development of 15.

Excellent ps4 hardware sales. It's epic 2016 continues. Playstation keeping home consoles relevant in Japan.

Online stores such as amazon Japan are all sold out.  third parties selling them at crazy high prices.  So demand is big but supply is short.  Great to see.

Final Fantasy is a franchise that used to cater to the casual gamer back when they owned home consoles in Japan but that gamer has long jumped ship for mobile gaming so what you're looking at is what the core fanbase of the series is. It's also why series like Persona and Metal Gear Solid didn't see a decline in Japan. Those franchises always depended on their core fanbase and never reached the kind of casual gamers that Final Fantasy did. So until that casual gamer is back on home console we can't expect Final Fantasy to reach the kind of numbers that it used to do.

The same is true, perhaps even more so, for Dragon Quest, right? Will be interesting to see how DQ11 compares when it finally releases.

Yeah but that's why the 3DS version exists. We could still see a decline though because the 3DS audience is pretty fatigued at this point and the 3DS never reached the same kind of popularity as the DS anyway.
