Personally I think this was kind of inevitable. Firstly them damaging the FF name with XIII-2 and Lightning Returns, followed by a highly polarising combat system for a game which has been hyped for over 3 years since its re-reveal. Someone at Square just needs to commission the real FF15 and make it turn based. Square has essentially taken an approach that the turn based battle system is broken and its really rather baffling. Theres definitely stuff to be improved on but even more reason for them to revisit it.

It's mostly the consoles declining rather than the franchises. I'll try to remember to do the maths later, but I think FF and RE stood strong during the PS360 era compared to the homeconsoles market's state.
