Forums - Politics Discussion - Daily Politics: Is Trump Pissing Off China Wise?

To be honest on this issue I don't have a terribly strong opinion here, but it does seem like watching a car crash developing in front of your eyes in slow motion.

Quick recap: Trump has been hammering on China all through his campaign, but it's ratcheted up this week when he took a call from the Taiwanese PM (which angered China), he also now is putting out Tweets blasting China.

Taking a phone call for congratulations doesn't mean anything. If China wants to get pissed off because of that, then fuck'em.

The media is blowing this out of proportion. It was a ten minute congratulations, not a four hour meeting.

I'm referring more to these tweets Trump put out today on purpose:

There's no real need to post these Tweets now, seems like poking a bear to see what will happen.

I'm all for a trade war, anything that weakens china is good for the rest of the world.

I will gladly pay more for a PS or TV if its made domestically and not in china.

Americans have had many chances to buy domestic goods and often choose foreign products even when given a choice.

I remember in the 80s/90s if you could buy something made in Japan, you automatically bought that every time over American made stuff, lol.

Also how much more are you willing to pay? $500 for a PS4? $600?

A war like that won't just be a "trade war" it will turn into a Cold War pretty quick.

China is not just TVs and Playstations, 70% of what's in a Wal-Mart (even things like Apple Juice) are produced in China. If you start a trade war, you are going to make life far more expensive for the average American.

So Donald Trump is complaining about a country protecting their economy? Sweet irony.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

lol i payed 400 for a PS4 so an extra 100 for it not to be chinese is a bargin to me if it means more jobs just down the street.

I avoid chinese food products like the plague, and dont shop at walmart.

It woulnd become a cold war, chinese know they would lose and there is no upside for them turining it into that.

$100? A Vitamix blender, made in the US, $599. Walmart blender, made in China, $13.47
A PS4 pro made in the US would be a lot more than $100 extra.

Can you clearly state what your view is on this other than the optics.
