Forums - General Discussion - Amazon increases Amazon Prime in Germany, from 49€ to 69€

Amazon will charge €69 instead of €49 per year from new Amazon Prime customers in Germany from February 1, 2017.

Existing Amazon Prime customers will pay the old subscription price of €49 for another year if their subscription is due for renewal before July 1, 2017.

A new monthly subscription to Amazon Prime is available for €8.99 per month. A stand-alone subscription to video-on-demand service (VOD) Amazon Video which is included in Amazon Prime remains available for €7.99 per month, the same fee charged by Amazon’s competitors Netflix and maxdome. Watchever costs €8.99 per month. In connection Amazon Prime, the VOD service only costs €5.75 per month, but users are tied to a 1-year subscription.

The reason for the price hike, according to Amazon, is the continuous expansion of the advantages Amazon Prime offers to meet customers’ demands through which the costs for the provision of the service have risen in the past years.

It’s the second price increase since the introduction of Amazon Prime in Germany nine years ago for €29 per year.

Amazon Prime comprises free premium delivery and an entertainment package with over 15,000 movies and series episodes as well as more than 2 million songs.

They also increased shipping fees from 2.99 to 3.99€ for none gaming products and some other exceptions like fashion. When Amazon launched in 2007 Prime membership costed 29€.

Well, if I want Netflix in HD-quality I have to pay €120 per year, so even €69 is still fine for me.

WTF, It was only 49 euro's??!?!??!?!

It's £79 a year here.

Meh it's alright. It includes A LOT of shit. If you're actually using Amazon Video, Music, Twitch Prime and shop regularly at Amazon it's actually insane value.

$100/year in the United States which is 92 Euro so I'd say Germany gets a better deal if it is the same service there.

Still cheaper then its in the US and those shipping rate increases seem reasonable also. I'm pretty sure you qualify for free standard shipping if you spend a a certain amount. In the US you get free standard shipping if your order is over $49 dollars.

It's just too bad Amazon Prime is not Europe-wide, have a sub for France, but it'd be nice if I could use it on Germany or UK versions too.

And that was before the pound dropped due to brexit.

I'm wondering if that devaluation will affect prime. Or even Netflix, PS plus or XBL in the UK.

Why not? I'm only using the free shipping, deals and Twitch Prime and I think that's worth a measely 70 bucks a year.
