Forums - Sony Discussion - FF XV is AMAZING - I loved it. (about a 40 hour play through for me)

Im 33 hours in and still in chapter 3. been exploring, doing side quests, and leveling.

I have some graphical questions though.

Im playing on the PS4 Pro (High setting) on a Sony XBR940C 4K 75 inch tv. HDR looks great on it. But I have some things Im seeing and want to see if everyone else is experiencing it as well.

Do you see some low res stuff like when you camp, when it shows how many days have lapsed and such, does that look really low res to you? Like the image in the background? What about some of the text? Like the HUD looks ok, but sometimes when text comes up on screen, it looks jaggie and lower res. Same when you look up close at the pictures Prompto takes when you are choosing which ones you want to save. They look noticeably lower res and have worse banding. Another example is the hunt poster when you complete it. The poster itself and the text looks clear. But the text that comes up that says hunt complete and shows which hunt it was, the text is jaggy and low res. Same with after a battle, when they show your report card. If the letters are bigger like an A+, the letters look much lower res.

Also, are you seeing banding in the sky? Like I can see alot of banding in segments for the blue part of the sky with light sources. Same happens at night some in the night sky with the moonlight (EDIT - NOT IN THE NIGHT SKY ACTUALLY. More like when its transitioning from day to night).

And the last thing is I watched a cutscene after you get to the motel that Cindy wants you to deliver a package to and it shows Luna and Noctis talking a while back. On their faces, there would be some lines going across them at times. Did this happen to anyone else? Same thing kinda happened with Uncharted 4 for me as well, when there was cutscenes and it showed faces move, there would be some of that also.

I wanted to see if people are seeing these things. I have some pictures to show.

Really enjoying the game though. Fun battle system and the characters are enjoyable. Though the game is a bit on the easy side IMO. Beat some optional bosses that are meant for later in the game at half the suggested level.

Ok so in some of the picturs you can see (some of these were taken with the PS4's picture option and some are with my phone). The last couple pictures are showing the map and report card. With the map, you can see the names on the map are really blurry and then the report card A+'s look blurry but the other words and letters that are smaller do not look blurry. Same goes for the icon that shows the days elapsed and Brackham Haven look nice and sharp also

Also, on the picture with the car. When it's on my TV, there is alot of noise in the black of the picture like on the bottom and top in the black areas, but not the car itself. Is this because it's upscaling the image to 4K and displaying that way on my TV? It doesnt show noise/specs like that in other areas where the screen is black. There is noise in all of those loading screens when you fast travel (such as regis being shown there etc and the pictures of the skyline). The map itself when you bring it up besides the stuff I mentioned earlier, the actual map itself looks blurry, but the HUD info that I pointed out and the smaller text looks fine and clear.

Another part is when you finish a hunt and it says completed etc, the text there that's in front of the hunt image, looks blurrier, but the image of the monster and the hunt poster is clear as day. So is it just certain things are blurry and certain things are higher quality. I've also heard of some places saying the image looks softer and it really does when you go to the option screen and see your four characters, they look a little less crisp and not as sharp as when you are actually playing and controlling the characters.

Make sure to open the pictures in a new tap for the full size. I am playing on a 75 inch 4K TV, so maybe even though Im using a Pro and its being displayed in 4K it's still causing some blurriness or upscaling the image. Im really thinking it's the game though because they showed the cutscene that was CG in the beginning and there were some blurry places and some of the scenes from Kingsglaive also had some banding or blurriness, but I just watched Kingsglaive before I started playing and that was crystal clear.

Just wanted to see if people saw this stuff also.

So I did watch some video's online also, and even on a 15 inch screen, the map definitely looks blurry, like the names of the regions and such. Its harder to tell with some of the other things like the A+ and places where it says skill level up, or the completion of a hunt on a 15 inch laptop screen, but it does look slightly not as sharp on this size of a screen, so magnified to 75 inch screen, it would be more noticeable. Im really assuming it's the game since most things look 4K clear and some stuff doesnt. If it was the TV everything would look like one or the other.

The core story is brilliant but I disagree about the storytelling, it's shit. If only FFXV got the same treatment past FF games got the experience would be magical. There's just too many holes you need to fill with your imagination.

I'd also say doing a lot of side quests before moving on is the equivalent of grinding in past games. FFXV works differently, there is absolutely no reason to kill mobs over and over to gain levels, not even post-game. I see all these people lvl 40-50 in chapter 3 which is final boss levels, must be fun to play the story without feeling any threat at all, personally it would ruin the experience but that's just me.

49h and not much for plat anymore, like 2-3 dungeons and some other shit maybe 10h total.

I cannot imagine toilet-free life.

Kebabs have a unique attribute compared to other consumables. To unlock this effect you need to wolf down a big ass kebab really fast, like under 10 minutes or so and wait for the effect to kick in. If done correctly your movements should feel unbelievably heavy to the point where you literally cannot move at all.

Im 40 hours in, level 54 and on chapter 10. I also got to hunter rank 5. Im just taking my time exploring, fishing, doing sidequests and hunting. I wish it never ends

Chapter 8 is a better time to clean up... (you can fast travel at night at that point).

I think I finished chapter 3 at around 14-15 hours. I spent a good 8 hours though on chapter 8, when I am pretty sure had I just done the story that chapter would have been 20 minutes tops.

Minor spoilers-

Get yourself to at least level 45 or so before you trigger the event in chapter 8 (it tells you won't be able to return for some time, so you know when you are doing it). From that point on the story really gets good and it would have been broken up my enjoyment of it if I got stalled due to having to go back and sidequest to level up to beat something.

Also you get a gold trophie for beating the final boss on normal(it is a hidden trophie), so don't turn it to easy mode to get by stuff. Make sure you can clear everything on normal. If you are up around level 50 it really should not be a problem.

Good tips. I may just continue now as the mobs are getting a bit too tough for me currently. Level 40 mobs may be a bit too good for level 33 characters.

I need to get o my better fishing equipment anyway.

I still really hate it though. SE has put in some effort to make collecting things and doing side quests as annoying as possible.

GUYS FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY USE FUCKING SPOILER FONT!

I am about 20 hours in and having a great time. Still in Chapter 3, at level 30. I feel like my current level is probably high for where I am? I haven't done any grinding, just a lot of side quests/hunting.

Yep level 30 for chapter 3 is very high. And doing side quests/hunting is kinda like grinding.

Welp, this has officially gone on my "don't buy" list.

It sounds like it has some good qualities, but some bad ones also. I'm not really willing to put tons of hours into a FF game before the story "really" kicks in. Will maybe consider getting when its discounted down to $25-$30 or so.

You don't have to put in tons of hours unless, like many RPG gamers, you are a completionist.   One optional monster, in particular can take over an hour to kill.   Someone here beat the game in 23 hours.  I'm probably trending towards 60.

It took me 3 hours to kill that one because I didn't camp and buff myself at all prior to, and I was severely under-leveled.

What level were you... if you don't mind me asking?
