But none of that matters though. Fact is, Switch will be launching alongside consoles that are just as far ahead of it as PS4/Xbone are ahead of Wii U. So the gap has not changed.

Wii U at 176 Gflops vs 1.84 Teraflops PS4 = x 10 performance advantage for the PS4.
Switch at 600 Gflops? vs 4.2 Teraflops PS4pro = x 7 performance advantage for the PS4pro.
The gap has been reduced, abit.

The gap between Switch and Scorpio looks to be about the same as between Wii U and PS4 though, while the gap from Switch to PS4 Pro looks to be about the same as from Wii U to Xbox One.
How that power will be used, however, is another matter entirely; see the latter half of my post above.

It's not that Switch is actually any more powerful for its time though. Just as Wii U was about 10% the power of its strongest rival, the standard PS4, Switch looks to be about 10% as strong as its strongest rival, Scorpio.

But every game made for the Scorpio HAS to also work on the standard Xbox One. Same with every game made for the PS4 Pro, it HAS to also work on the standard PS4. So bringing the Pro and Scorpio into this discussion is mute point. Every game will have a standard version so that is where you look at the power difference. The gap between Switch and standard PS4 and standard Xbox One is small. |
But by the same token those same games will all have to have a Pro/Scorpio mode. It's only natural to compare Switch to systems releasing around the same time, rather than to systems that released over three years earlier.
Nintendo do have an opportunity to narrow the perceived gap, however, if they don't chase resolution to the detriment of other graphical elements, like Sony has with Pro and MS looks set to do with Scorpio.
