Forums - Politics Discussion - Why Trump supporters stand by debunked claim

Seeing that a trump supporter claimed on camera that thousands of women were raped on new years eve in germany and 'they couldn't do anything about it because of Sharia law', this does not seem surprising to me.

You either have to be rich and privileged or a moron to have voted for Trump. The general public is not rich and priviliged. Unfortunately the general public in the US has been systematically undereducated in order to make them willing sheep for giant coorperations to exploit.
The fact that seemingly a majority of americans think that it is impossible to achieve equal, high quality education for everyone as well as access to medical facilities is a clear sign of how indoctrinated these ideas are in the general public. The fact that a lot of these people are too scared of change or just flat out refuse to reconize how deeply flawed a system is that is detrimental to them, is a testament to just how well the current system succeded in creating paranoid, non-questioning, irrational scared people incapable of critical thinking.

That being said, the US electorial system is such a mess that even a lot of US citizens clearly don't understand it to it's fullest wich leads to the candidate with the deepest pockets to win the presidency more often than not.
It's more about the ad than the actual product it seems.

Now let's just generalize the rest of his supporters as that exact kind of person please.

I mean there's a frightening amount of these kind of people who don't fact check and easily believe in absurd notions. That's simply something that Trump's campaign took more advantage of. Of course not all of his supporters fall into that category.
On top of that there are just other scary things in general. Check out what appeared on a ballot in South Carolina.

How is this a question in 2016?
If a minority group are still pushing for equal rights, that means they don't have equal rights.

I'm not joking when I say that my view on humanity changed a bit during the past few years, for many reasons.
I always knew these things were around us, but it seems a lot more common than I ever imagined.

That's not true at all.  Many SJWs lives are focused on that fight.  It's all they know.  Hell, many of them make their living off of that fight, so there's not a reason to except, or let others except, that they actually have equal rights, just maybe not equal results.  Though, it wouldn't surprise me that that ballot question was more like a way to get a list of people the government would jot down as racists.  Keep an eye on them.

As for the OP, it's just the two party system in work.  You defend whatever your guy says, no matter how ridiculous.  And you demonize what the other side is saying, no matter how reasonable.  Is there voter fraud?  Of course there is.  However, there isn't enough to have swayed the popular vote to Trump's favor, no matter how much his ego NEEDS to believe it.

The misinformation warfare this election was particularly strong and concerning. It's become impossible to have a conversation with our fellow citizens because everyone seeks out information from sources that confirm their biases regardless of the legitimacy of the source. "News" outlets are purposefully releasing absurd stories with the knowledge that their information won't be vetted by the majority of people, and statistics show most people believe the stuff. Trying to stay properly informed is practically a full time job these days since there's a complete lack of integrity amongst any of these groups releasing information. I guess this has always been happening, but the internet seems to make it happen absurdly fast to where it's impossible to keep up. No idea what we can do about it either, other than continually inform the people around us. Endlessly....

Not sure if intelligence played any role in this. Intelligent or not, these people voted for the same person that the KKK endorsed.

And I'm sure there are some KKK members who are still Dems.  Dems voted for the guy (Clinton) who excused older Dems who were in the KKK, cause "that's just what you used to have to do to win positions in government."  Of course, ignoring the thousands who chose not to.  You feel the same about the people who voted for him, or still support him?

we live in a post-factual society, facts don't matter anymore, because everything that has ~3 sources will be seen as "fact" by a frighteningly large number of people (especially if it coincides with their "feelings"/world view)

The majority of humanity is on the level of cattle. Its been shown time and again that it doesn't take much to control the herd. Play on instincts. Tribalism and presenting a enemy to hate and you will have them eating out of the palm of their hand. Tell them that they are smart for listening to you. Feed their cattle egos. There are already people out there who say they will die for him.

What's wrong with the question?

You cut out the part where I explained what was wrong with the question.

Could also be a way for political parties to gauge how well a xenophobic narrative resonates with their voters, and go more for that next year. In either case, it's very strange to see that question on an official voting ballot.

Well, I definitely agree with you there.

So you believe the question implies asking for equal rights is too demanding?

well i don't know about the first part, it seems kind of speculative, and I'm pretty sure there are KKK in the senate and house. I will answer your question. They did it to themselves, for the rest of their lives, they have to know they voted the same way as the KKK. I don't care what political side they're on.
