I take it you're familiar with the expression "generalizations are bad and you should feel bad". Right? Also, that they are against the rules of these forums for a reason. You claimed that you were simply expressing your opinion. You weren't. For some reason you just had to talk about how others felt about the game. |
I take it that you realize "generalizations are bad" is in itself a generalization. Or maybe not cause you don't seem to get how they work. XD And it's a bad one at that, cause there is nothing inherently wrong with generalizations. Generalizations are a part of common speech. It allows us to say things like "my family loves baseball" instead of saying things like "my brother Frank, my sister Madeline, my uncle Moe, my niece Sally, my first cousin once removed Baxter, my grandma Mabel, and my Grandpa Joe love baseball, although my third cousin Nancy is not a fan, and my great grandpa Pat stopped watching baseball after the black sox incident of 1919." Generalizations allow us to say things like "I like videogames" rather than "I like video games with the following exceptions; Knack, Mortal Kombat, LA Noire, Angry Birds, etc etc."
In certain circumstances, generalizations are bad. In most circumstances, they are a convenient shorthand that allows us to make statements without the innumerable caveats and clarifications that would otherwise be necessary. 100% accuracy is not necessary in most cases, because the people we're talking to generally have the common sense to understand that most statements are not intended to be absolutes. I can guarantee that you use generalizations every day, because conversation is impossible without them. If generalizations are against the rules, please report me, cause that would be pretty hilarious. Everyone would be banned within a week.
There are lots of other posts that you could have claimed were speaking for other people or using generalizations, which I've pointed out, but you've conveniently ignored. It's pretty amusing the lengths you're trying to go to pretend an innocuous generalization was an attempt to speak for every single human being over the age of 8. A basic application of common sense would tell you that this wasn't a literal statement. It must be fun to watch you have a conversation. "Of course my son is trick or treating this year. Kids love candy." "HOW DARE YOU TRY TO SPEAK FOR ALL CHILDREN!!! I HAPPEN TO KNOW FOR A FACT THAT LITTLE BILLY ON MAIN STREET IS DIABETIC!" "Be careful in the woods, wild animals are dangerous". "HOW DARE YOU TRY TO SPEAK FOR ALL ANIMALS! THERE HAPPENS TO BE A VERY FRIENDLY FROG LIVING IN THE POND!"
Also, it's incredibly amusing that you're complaining about me trying to speak for others while you're literally telling me what I meant to say xD.
