Always nice to see people stating their opinion as fact and thinking they can speak for others.

I'm sorry.  I didn't know that I needed to put a big disclaimer to show that my opinion was indeed my opinion before stating it.  Out of curiousity though, why is my post an example of someone "stating their opinion as fact" as opposed to anyone else?

Why is what I said an example of people speaking for others, but when someone says the game gets undeserved hate, implying that people that hate it are doing so unjustly, is not?  Why is what I said an example of stating my opinion of fact, but it isn't when someone flatly states that those who reviewed the game poorly were wrong to do so?

Simple. Read what you posted again.

"Love how its fans are insisting that anyone who hates it hates it because they don't like the genre, or they don't like family games, or they're just biased for some reason or another, and can't appreciate the wonder that is Knack.

It's just not a good game. For any gamer over 8 years old, it's far too simplistic, and for most people under that age, it's too complicated"

You're not expressing your opinion. You're not just saying that you, personally, didn't like it. You contrast what others say with your version of reality. You even claim that (bolded) it's too simplistic for anyone over 8. All of us here who mentioned that we like it are older than 8. Who are you to tell us what we think of it? I don't think it's too simplistic. On the contrary, I think it's great as it is. Again, speak for yourself. Not for those over 8, or those under 8.

Also, where did I or the rest of its fans claim that "anyone who hates it hates it because they don't like the genre, or they don't like family games, or they're just biased for some reason or another, and can't appreciate the wonder that is Knack"? I didn't. People can dislike any game for any reason they want. No game can or will be liked by everyone.

You're surely familiar with figurative language.  Right?  Like, if I said "Europeans love soccer", you wouldn't get in a huff and say "how dare you speak for the entirety of Europe!  Some of them actually don't like soccer!"

Did you actually think when I said "any gamer over 8" that I was literally speaking about every gamer over the age of 8?  If so, then you really need to bone up on how colloquial English language works.  I have serious trouble believing that you're so blissfully unaware of how generalizations are used in common speech.

But, I really don't think your comprehension is that poor, because you seemed perfectly able to distinguish between literal and figurative language, and fact and opinion when it came to all of those people that agreed with you.  Case in point...

I'd just like to say that I never said everyone had to like it just because I do, and that people who dislike it are wrong, I even mentioned that the gameplay was simple, but everything else about the game was enjoyable for me, in fact when it comes to most games, gameplay is the last thing I care about...

Of course you didn't.  I wasn't trying to criticize you or anything like that.  The reason I quoted you was to point out the hypocrisy.

When you said that the game deserves more than 54 on Metacritic, the literal interpretation of that is that the people who gave it less than 54 on metacritic were wrong to do so and had invalid opinions.

Naturally, I understand that what you actually meant was that you happened to enjoy the game more than the people who reviewed it did, and you would have rated it higher than a 54.

In the case of your statement, Naruball was able to deftly identify that you were not speaking in a literal fashion.  If he wanted to interpret it in a literal fashion, he could have, and he could have made the same accusation that you were trying to state your opinion as fact.  Curiously though, in your case he chose not to take it literally, and in mine, he did.  I suspect it may because he agrees with your opinion, but he disagreed with mine.  And instead of trying to point out anything specific that he disagreed with, he instead tried to misrepresent what I said.

Out of curiousity, what do you mean by "everything else" in the game?  The graphics were decent enough for the time, but other than that, I don't really see anything above average about it.  I didn't get that deep into the story, but what was there didn't grab me.

I don'y really see where the hypocrisy is in my post, if that's what you're trying to sugest... I even began my sentence with "I thought" to show that it was just that, my thought, nobody elses, in the same way you'd say "in my opinion", it's just another way of saying it. I'm not trying to defend the game, I'm just saying what I thought about it, and that is that I enjoyed the game.

As for the "everything else" part... sure the gameplay was simple yet I didn't mind it, but I did like the story of the game, sure it was textbook and easy to tell, but aren't all family friendly stories? No point trying to add complexity to a story meant for everyone is there... I still enjoy the graphics even today, the style they went with always holds up great in my opinion, and another thing I enjoyed that not many people talk about was the music too...

Yeah, I get that you're just stating your opinion, which was what I was doing too.  I'm just pointing out that the person I was responding to accused me of trying to speak for others when I stated my opinion, but didn't react to your post the same way.

As for the story, being meant for everyone doesn't mean there can't be depth and complexity.  For instance, if you look at Pixar's movies, they are accessible to everyone, but still have a lot of depth. Can't remember the music that well.  Any particular tracks I should look up?

it got a 54 metascore

I'll probably buy it.

This song, about a minute in, love the instruments used, makes for a great background song in my opinion

And this song, to me, feels really epic, like it could have been in a God of War or Dark Souls game or something

It's a shame I don't even know if the songs are actually named, would make finding them easier... I just remember which parts of the game they're from, but I really do like the music... whether you do or not is up to you :)

The first one is very nice.  Reminds me a bit of DKC.  I rarely notice video game music when I'm playing.

Wow, was it that low? It wasn't stellar, yet it was great fun to play with my kids. Coop done in a way I can actually support my little ones playing instead of the usual screw ups, him using up all the lives and having to sit out for the rest of the level. It was a very satisfying experience in retrospect.

I have only ever played a short store demo for Knack, so I have no real idea whether it's good or not.

That said, I'm still going to be joking about games like Lair, Haze, Kameo, Mindjack, and Too Human getting sequels now. Not because these are bad games, just games that seem to be part of stillborn franchises that nobody talked much about after their release.

Love and tolerate.

I take it you're familiar with the expression "generalizations are bad and you should feel bad". Right?

Also, that they are against the rules of these forums for a reason. You claimed that you were simply expressing your opinion. You weren't. For some reason you just had to talk about how others felt about the game.

A game for the family, one of the few games me and my wife can play together in coop. My wife loved the first one, she's excited about this one. A huge thing people miss is that consoles need games that appeal to everyone....not just a certain crowd.
Just like how some are excited for Sea of Theives.....or another Mario doing the same thing the rest of the Mario games have been doing. Everyone likes different things......I mean Minecraft is EXTREMLY BASIC and people buy it a ton
