Forums - Microsoft Discussion - 2016 Will Be Remembered as a "Tipping Point" for Xbox One

"Momentum is really important in this business, because it gives confidence to retailers, publishers, and to consumers..... We are giving them confidence that they have made a right point. I think we'll look back on 2016 as a tipping point for Xbox One."

"Our data shows that there is still a significant number of households actively using their Xbox 360 who haven't upgraded yet," Eagle said. "[The backwards compatibility list] is growing all the time and I think it is definitely a benefit for Xbox 360 owners, to know that the money that they've already spent on games won't get wasted when they upgrade to Xbox One."

-Xbox UK marketing director Harvey Eagle

2016 Will Be Remembered as a "Tipping Point" for Xbox One, Microsoft Says

When they tipped from distant second to ever-so-slightly less distant second?

Anyway, if Xbox is doing great, it's time to share that worldwide sell-through figure

No doubt this year has been the best year for the xbox one. Kudos to MS. Glad to see them turning everything from negative to positive. Nex year with Scorpio will be crazy. Keep up the success MS.

Praise the One.

This seems a bit premature. Xbox did a bang up job last holiday too and then it uranium anvil right afterwards because low and behold fire sales are not sustainable indefinitely and people have been trained by MS themselves to not buy the Xbone at regular prices and regular bundles. So let's see if it maintains momentum or plummets again.

I'm glad Xbox is doing great. It's good that we see some back and forth so that we will have more to discuss and speculate. No fun when someone is just winning the majority of the time.

1) Who's to say that those 360 owners didn't upgrade to a PS4 instead while they still actively use their 360? And not like they'll have access to Playstation data to see if 360 owners switched or not.

2) Of course the money they spent on games wont go to waste because they're still playing it on their 360. Who buys game for the system its on thinks it's a waste because the next console doesn't have backwards compatibility? I dont think anybody thought their PS3 or 3DS games are a waste because the PS4 and Switch aren't BWC.

Not trying to put down the growing success of the XB1 as MS has been making numerous smart moves lately, but I just feel that other things could've been better said what was said in the OP.  But regardless, good on MS, we need competition.

I thought the year where they did insane cut throat sales was their breakout year...? Now what year was that...?

Congrats to MS!!!!

Glad to see XB1 doing well, although so many continue to root for its failure.

Xbone has definitely done better this year, but it's never gonna get anywhere close to PS4.
