Forums - Gaming Discussion - Kojima Was Locked in a Separate Room for Final Six Months of MGS5 Development

Classic Konami...

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

I'm quite comfortable in assuming MGS V was a profitable venture. If MGS V, or for that matter, Kojima in general, on any past Kojima project, is ever proven to be a "money pit" as you postulate, you can have my avatar for a month. I need nothing in return. You're totally ignoring the $$$ aspect, which was the crux of your intial post. So yes, kicking water uphill. He's not a financial albatross. He's a phoenix. Always rising. That's why he's a fucking rockstar, and Itagaki bitches about other people from the shadows.

So we're not done and we've now gone to "I'm definitely right, lets bet on this".

Ah so you also hold up high upon the pedestal no matter what as well.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

No offense, but

This will never be resolved in VGC posts. Face to face. Or I leave the planet. And die. :) I STILL think I'm immortal, based on the fact that I have never died. Not even once.

Either way my previous point still stands.

Until I can be shown otherwise, MGS V was bank. Like every other MGS. I see no evidence of tossing anything into an endless money pit. It's remarkable it turned out as well as it did.

If the $80M budget is accurate, and we assume Konami made at least $40 on each game (probably average of Standard and Collector editions), then they made $160M more than the budget in just 4 months.  It's probably made at least $180M-$200M more than budget by now.  There's a reason Konami is trying to continue the series without Kojima, it continues to make them a ton of money.

And I'm sorry, but if anyone is siding wtih Konami, they are either a Konami fanboy (but completely ignoring the devs that made Konami Konami) or they just like being on the opposite side of popular opinion, without good reason.  There is no excuse for Konami's actions.  This would be the same as Disney constantly bitching and moaning about the Marvel movies costing so much money, even though they make 100's of millions of profit from them.  And then when the next Avengers movie cost more than the last Avengers movie, they treat the director and crew like shit, not even allowing the director to speak to anyone else on the crew.  Doubt people would be siding with Disney in this instance.  Of course, Disney knows that the Marvel movies are guaranteed cashcows, so they have no problem spending money on them.

Personally, I was pissed at Konami way before this when they broke up Team Silent because they wanted Western devs to make the Silent Hill series.  It hasn't been the same since.  I was hoping Kojima could return it to its former glory, but we all know how that played out.

Yes. This is what I have been saying for the last 30 or so posts. I don't get how the financial aspect was ever a point of contention. Kojima was only ever associated with platinum hits. Speaking of platinum hits. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nmXrCJIsAo

This gotta be bs

why?

that Keighley speech was cheese and over the top with exageration, but companies do that kind of stuff when they want to force someone out and don't want to pay a settlement. seen that happen before with friends of mine.

Proudest Platinums - BF: Bad Company, Killzone 2 , Battlefield 3 and GTA4

Can't wait for his PlayStation exclusive and as long as he's with PlayStation will never have to worry about that shit again

Well, that continues to show more why KoNANI?! sucks real bad now compared to the old days. Playing old games with that old Konami logo just hurts me now, knowing what they have become.

the Konami thing is baffling, we are talking about an extremely beloved third party game developer, arguably one of the most popular third parties of all time- seemingly totally ruining their popularity and audience support.... for what reason?

Konami is just bizarre.

They could have sold millions of copies of something like a new Contra or a new Castlevania with extremely little effort yet they not only appear to basically abandon the gaming market but ALSO don't give a fuck about upsetting their fans for the future? seems like a bad business practice

the weird zombie Metal Gear game is going to bomb by the way, maybe that will be a wake up call for them send out apologies.

For anyone curious, its definitely not a Japanese company thing necessarily either. If you ever watch any of the footage of how people are acting in the Nintendo offices (America OR Japan) you'll see that the employees seem to love working there

whoeever is running Konami must just be the devil disguised
