Welp, I'll say this: You have a lot more faith in a single game developer than I do. I can't say there's a single person that is so good at developing games that I would be hyped regardless of what the announcement was like and what footage was revealed.

Nintendo Mainline Mario games, and zelda games.

I dont really need to know much about them... Im pretty sure Id enjoy them. Granted Im a much harder critic of SM3DWorld than most.

Naughty dog is like that too, whatever they think up next or do next, will probably be great.

I think mainline Mario and Zelda games are a bit different, because we have expectations as to what the gameplay will be like that are backed up by previous experience. Broadly speaking, you know what a Mario or Zelda game will play like. I think a more apt comparison would be your second one, getting excited if Naughty Dog simply announced that they were working on some game, and then proceeded to release two trailers that tell us almost nothing about what the game is about or plays like.

Then again maybe I'm just jaded.

Around the Network

Just watched the trailer again and this time realized that Mark Cerny is the games technical director. Talk abiut the whos who of game development.

Gotta be something having the PS4 hardware architect on your team as a technical director.

Steven spielberg makes great movies... I dont even have to know the plotline to agree go watch a new movie by him.

Some people are just so good at what they do, you trust them to deliver.

And casting Mads Mikkelsen as the villian for this game? :) that is awesome.

Hes a top quality actor, plays really good villians.  Dont you want to be a Norman Reedus hero, and go save the world?

Hmmm  so if you hear that miyamoto is creating a new IP and then you end up seeing the exact same trailer here with death stranding you wouldn't get excited/hyped?

Somehow I find that very hard to believe.

Believe it or not, certain devs have got a certain gift. They make games that somehow capture an essence you simply won't find in any clone of that game style. Kohima is one such dev, as is miyamoto and Udea.

Means the graphics in this game will be pushing the hardware.

This game is getting alot of push by sony. Kojima must be over the moon, happy to be there instead of at konami.

Considering Miyamoto was largely responsible for Star Fox Zero and Skyward Sword, he could release a gameplay trailer for a series I really liked and I'd still be skeptical of it.

But to answer the question, let's take a developer I'm quite fond of, Retro Studios, and visit the same scenario. If Retro were to release a trailer for a new IP, with no gameplay footage and no indication of what kind of game it will be, and then, six months later, released another trailer that still doesn't answer either of those questions, I would have the exact same doubts. Certain devs do have gifts, I won't deny that, but that does not make them infallible or eliminate the possibility of mistakes. And the longer we go with no indication of gameplay premesis, type, or plot, the more concerned I become that the developers themselves are unsure of those things too.

I'm actually really intrigued, and the thing that sold it to me is Mads Mikkelsen, stupid as that may be. I just love that guy.

Nothing wrong with that.

I don't think I've known ess, yet been mor einterested in a game.

Fair point and I would have to agree with you.

I'm not gonna lie, I do have that voice at he back of my head asking... what if the game sucks? it just so happens to be that I've not had a reason yet to doubt questions Hideos dev prowess in the last almost 20yrs.

A pedigree like that has to count for something. Hell, the last time he decided to branch out of MGS he made Zone of the enders which is today arguably one of the best mech type action adventures and stylized. Then he dabbled a little with the Castlevania reboot, Lord of Shadows (at least the first part) and that turned out to be the first 3D Castlevania game that was actually great. And then silent hills PT.... which is right now the most valuable free demo of all time.

I just have way more reasons to believe in the dude than to doubt him.

I think this is going to be a over dramatic retelling of Kojima and Del Torro's struggles with Konami...trying to kill their babies (projects).

It's so strange.. I dont even know what to think just yet

Mads Mikkelsen is awesome though

HOLY SHIT

If you play the 2 trailers side-by-side the baby in the first trailer disappears at the exact same moment Del Toro's baby appears in that thingy he's holding
