The Game Awards, created by Geoff Keighley, is an annual awards ceremony to honor outstanding artistic, technical and gameplay achievements in the video game industry. Spanning console, mobile and PC gaming, as well as eSports, The Game Awards is the first of a new breed of award shows, built from the ground up exclusively for global digital and streaming platforms.
The Man, The Myth, The Legend
Geoff Keighley, known to many as the dorito pope, is a journalist and presenter with many years of experience in the industry. He produced and hosted the Spike VGA's that were a predecessor to the current awards, and has covered E3 on multiple occasions in doing so, working for both Comcast and Youtube. The Game Awards are basically his pet project, to help ensure great games get the recognition they deserve.
Why We're Actually Here
Numerous developers and publishers have debuted or shown new trailers for projects at previous game awards, and this year is no different. However, Keighley has promised that the show will 'feature more substance and less sizzle', due to the hype - and subsequent disappointment - surrounding No Man's Sky.
