Forums - Sales Discussion - Have CoD declined or Digital Sales rose?

http://www.vgchartz.com/article/266627/call-of-duty-infinite-warfare-sells-an-estimated-373m-units-first-week-at-retail/

Our inhouse analyst just out an article about the sales of CoD IW and it onlys surpasses the FW of CoD4 and first MW, both of which was before CoD exploded in popularity and started seeing crazy FW numbers.

So did the franchise drop 75% over Black Ops 3 or did Digital Sales grow so much as to make it tops all other CoDs?

I'm guessing 80% digital attach ratio because everyone wants to play at the first second available and only digital preloading can assure you this.

Cod has declined and digital sales go up every year.

It's a 40% drop not a 75% drop.

Could be undertracked, but we'll have to see what NPD figures show. There was definitely a big drop though.

Black Ops II (I mistyped) is  12.39M against IW 3.73M is 70% drop.

But besides undertracking or franchise decline/fatigue it could also be the backlash this version got

It's probably a bit of both, but it's not like this series is going to die out any time soon..

Am I reading this correctly?  You believe 8 out of 10 console CoD players are buying it digitally?

Digital rose a bit, but overall, I think it declined from last year.
The insane amount of negativity and backlash that was surrounded around Infinite Warfare's reveal:

And while it's died down for the most part, I think it's definitely had an effect.

Edit: Plus it had Battlefield 1 on its heels.

Next year Infinity Ward is back at the helm. So the quality will be here, we'll see what they have to offer. But to me Advanced Warfare was amazing.

Such a sudden shift in consumer preferences from physical to digital would be unprecedented in any medium. Even the music industry is about half physical (about 1/3 in the US), so COD being 80% digital would be insane.

Sales are dropping. The franchise has turned away a lot of longtime fans with its shift from modern warfare (the thing that made the franchise big in the first place) to sci-fi, and that's coupled with the general decline that any franchise is going to see over time.

COD is between a rock and a hard place. The fanbase wants something new, but is very averse to change. Dunno where they could go from here. It's been a good run though.

I went into my local CEX and saw over 100 copies of IW on their racks.

(there were between 7-8 cases stacked in a row and they're were about 12 rows. There were a few copies on other shelves, but give our take a few boxes, you had over 100 copies.)

Infinite Warfare is from Infinity Ward. Sledgehammer made Advanced Warfare. Unless I am mistaken on these.

Also, it's probably a bit of both. Of course digital will be up, and the game could have seen a decline. Do the numbers include all editions?
