Doctor Who Christmas Special Sneak Peek and Plot Details Revealed

Two mysterious doctors in one episode.

Doctor Who, as is now tradition, is getting a Christmas special this year. It's called The Return of Doctor Mysterio, and new plot details have been revealed.

The episode is set in New York, and centers around a masked superhero and some brain-swapping aliens. The cast stars Justin Chatwin (War of the Worlds) and Charity Wakefield (Wolf Hall), while Matt Lucas (Alice in Wonderland, Little Britain) reprises his role as Nardole. Not forgetting Peter Capaldi as The Doctor, of course.

The special will be broadcast on BBC One on Christmas Day at 5.45pm GMT in the UK, or on BBC America at 9/8c the same day in the US. It will also air in Australia on ABC on December 25, though an exact time has not yet been confirmed.

The Return of Doctor Mysterio will be showrunner Steven Moffat's final Christmas special as executive producer of Doctor Who. Moffat is stepping down after the next season--due to air in Spring 2017--to be replaced by Chris Chibnall. Check out a new poster for the special below.

Looks dumb, can't wait for steven moffet to leave the show, Season 5 was ok but after that it started going down hill.

Doctor Who should be a sci-fi show but he's slowly moved further and further towards whimsical fairytale.

There's still the odd good episode such as Heaven Sent last season, but in general it's been pretty bad for a while imo.

Chris-freaking-Chibnall is taking over as show runner?I CHRIS CHIBNALL!!!!? I may as well quit watching the show right now!

heh, other people mentioning behind the scenes staff and I haven`t been watching it because of the Doc himself. I miss David Tennant

Matt Smith was great if you gave him a chance, hell there's nothing wrong with Capaldi either. It's just most of the time the writing and stories are bloody awful.

I can't really pick which between Tennant and Smith is my favorite but Tennant got better writing in general.

Personally, I love Capaldi as the Doctor, but the story arcs have been meh when you get to the end.  I loved the last Christmas special though.

Moffat has no idea how to finish the story arcs he builds up to, I mean take Capaldi's first season for instance, what a bloody awful ending.

A conversation in a graveyard and then a cyberman that isn't under control because of LOVE sacrifices himself to save the day! "Love isn't an emotion, it's a promise". Such horrific writing. It literally makes zero sense.

For some reason after season 6 he became completely incompetent at writing any satisfying conclusion.

The end of Capaldi's first season I saw it as a "setting up" of events to come.  And we finally got Gallifrey at the end of the next season, but it was so anti-climatic.  This coming season better tie everything up as an awesome final season.  Otherwise, it would be hard to give the next a chance.

Tennant is an awesome actor, but I didn't care for his portrayal as the Doctor during normal 1 hour episodes. Most any two parters and Doctor Who TV movies with Tennant was quite enjoyable because it gives the Doctor proper time to develop as the story unfolds.  Other than that, the story arc for a 1 hour episode was too short for any natural development.  It happened so quickly in such a short amount of time that I couldn't take is seriously.  In my opinion.

Yeah, the last 3 seasons were barely okay in my book.

I thought the old doctor would be nice. You know more intelligent and wise, but he just looks tired and confused most of the time. I'm not sure if i will see the new season. Likely not.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

Being an old school DW fan, Smith got me back into the series.  In fact, he was one of the reasons that go me going to comic con.
