If that is true then I am a prehistoric dino. The only 2016 game I plan on buying is Civ 6 when it probably gets a 15 dollar price cut during the winter sale.

Exactly. This is the beauty of steam. There's not much risk involved in releasing games there so a very small team (or even a single dev) can release awesome games. Not AAA games (or even AA games), obviously, but still very entertaining games. There will, of course, be failures as well but I've never really had any problems with finding out whether a game is good or not and never felt as if there are too many shovelware titles. Most recently I finished Chroma squad which I bought as part of a bundle (humble bundle I think?) for next to nothing and I've had great fun with it. And I'm currently playing Big Pharma.



Steams in such an awful state now... 11.5 games released a day.

It's turning into the app store, used to be the case that mostly only good games got on steam, and if you got on steam it was pretty much a guaranteed success of some description for indies. Now there's so many games releasing they get sweeped under the rug.

Genuinely good indie games getting less than 100 sales because of the insane over saturation. Small teams that can't afford or don't know how to market, New Releases on steam used to Market the game for them and solve the issue, that's no longer the case.



That's really too much. They need some better quality control.



No suprise, almost all consoles games, even weird Japanese games from PS4, PSVita and even games from the Xbox library, like Quantum Break are making their way on steam.

Steam offers the most freedom, the better prices, allows you to active keys elsewhere obtained (like cd key websites or HumbleBundels) and its a free service.

The best way to play games, for a long while, has been PC. altough not everyone likes the platform and there are still many people that just want to play on consoles, the PC offers controller support in nearly all games and pound of pound its been proven over and over again that the PC, even hardware wise, is cheaper and better value.

I love PC and altough I own (nearly) all consoles made since 1985, PC has 80% of my playtime :)

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

Between Greenlight, Early Access and mobile (or even Flash) games ported to the platform, it's evident how much Steam has grown.

And about how much of it is shovelware... well, even if only 5% of those games are good that still means hundreds of good games. Not too shabby.

Yes and you can thank those early access shovelware crap for that increase. I can't even think of 10 notable games released on PC last year that actually worked at launch.
