A Halo 5 Reality TV Show Is on the Way From Wicked Tuna Company

"The intensity and extreme competition" of Halo esports is coming to TV.

A Halo 5 reality show is on the way. 343 Industries today announced that it reached a deal with Pilgrim Media Group for a series about the game's esports scene. You may not know Pilgrim by name, but you're likely familiar with its work, as the studio is behind reality TV shows like Wicked Tuna, American Chopper, and The Ultimate Fighter, among many others.

Microsoft's announcement today didn't contain any information about the show like who will star in it, what it will be about specifically, or when it will premiere.

It's the first project from the previously announced partnership between Pilgrim, Hunger Games studio Lionsgate, and esports group ESL. As part of this deal, Pilgrim will create and produce "original esports entertainment content" for TV and digital platforms.

In its statement today, Microsoft teased that people should tune into the Halo Championship Series Pro League Finals on December 10-11 to learn more.

"We're thrilled to be partnering with Pilgrim on developing a reality series that will bring the intensity and extreme competition of Halo 5: Guardians Esports to a television audience," 343's Kiki Wolfkill said. "There is no better partner than Pilgrim to give our fans insight into the world of Halo esports."

Esports is not a new avenue for the Halo franchise, as it's one of the best-known and most popular professional console games, alongside Call of Duty and others. Microsoft launched its own tournament dedicated to the series last year, the Halo World Championship.

The pro gaming team CLG dominated Allegiance to win the first Halo 5 World Championship earlier this year, taking home $1 million.

In other Halo news, Microsoft continues to work on new Halo 5 DLC. An upcoming expansion will add more Warzone maps--watch a teaser for the DLC here.

A Halo TV show? Was that the project announced on the XBOne reveal, the one with Spielberg attached to it?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

..Interesting. I don't really follow the competitive Halo scene, but this may provide some fun insights

Nice, as someone who follows the competitive scene very closely this is gonna be great

reality tv.... okay that sucks...
About Esports with Halo = meh.

I see they haven't learned from their mistakes.

Halo 5 trying so hard to be relevant for the esport crowd is what made it so hated by fans. Those awful dude Bro poses, maps made by esport players and an entire game mode dedicated to them, only for it to me abandoned a few months after launch.

Rubbish. I see this as confirmation that Halo 6 will suck too.

"A Halo 5 Reality TV Show" WTF? Reality show?

It will be about the "sports" people that play halo as a sports, centered around the people.

Basically its gonna suck.

It's not going to last long. People rather watch this stuff on YouTube and Twitch. They already see the personalities behind these games on their YouTube/Twitch channels.

Nothing wrong with that. They're just supporting the IP and Halo 5 for longer than most expected.
Just because they want to bring halo eSport scene to bigger screens, doesn't mean Halo 6 will suck. Now, that's rubbish.
