Actually...FF7 was open world and so was FF8...it seems like Final Fantasy is just going back to its roots. Sure it looks like the newer western RPGs. But in reality...they probably were inspired by the ff series to begin with.

Hip hop is one of the most streamed genres of music in the US.so this was probably was a motivator. This obviously wont be the same song used in Japan or elsewhere that does not apply as a market.

Yeah After ffx they wanted to cater to americans and make FF13 a linear Action RPG... ff12 was an exception but the characters seemed rushed and underwhelmed.... I think FFxv wanted to really enforce their 4 main character and get back to having well developed characters.
