That story makes no sense. Advanced aliens come to Earth to give us a gift so that we hell them in 3,000 years. And they give that gift to 1 person? They made very little effort to communicate. So many problems with that movie. It sucked because it was also slow and pedestrian.

the language was the gift, pieceing it together and learning to think the way they do, allows one see through time.
I kinda agree its BS, if the reason they came to to give us the gift, was 3000 years lateron, they themselves would need help from us, why wouldnt they do a better job makeing sure we learn it? But I guess if a race is able to tell the outcome of events, they probably knew it would be enough to do the job. Maybe theres a reason for the way they went about it?

Yeah I kinda wrote off Arrival too.
In my opinion its not a very strong movie.

I kept thinking "yep Jodie Foster in Contact, was a million times better".
