Digital Foundry says the PS4 and Pro versions of the game still suffer from frame pacing issues found in the demo. Particularly the Pro High version. The visual improvements seem meh as well. So disappointing, as it would have been a perfect tech showcase.

I have 'peeked' some gameplays (I will only get my copy at the week-end :(.. and I just can't wait to experience it). And from what I've seen, I think I will enjoy this game. There are some let-downs for sure, but then in the past I also couldn't be able to 100% liking FFVII, or any other FF games. I can't even remember half of the stories of each every FF games that I've played (I to X).

Watching FFXV gameplays had me remember why I was so immersed to this series during my childhood-teenage days. It's not about the story (as I said I hardly remember the stories). But the magical journey, the otherworldly experience, the dedication to the aesthetic, and the wtf moments like when you first saw Diamond Weapon in VII or summoning Odin in VIII. I found it all again in this game.

Ofc it's pretty subjective. I won't argue with that. Even between FF fans they are arguing each other which FF is the best or which was the reason of the series decline. Everyone have their own preferences and for me FFXV (and many other FF games) just suits my gaming taste.

Therefore, I don't really care with the score (in the way, low score will make me don't want to play the game & vice versa). As from what I've seen, I'd score this game 85 at max - mainly for the effort to make such an ambitious game. PS4 surely can't handle how FFXV was first envisioned. There are so many ambitious scenes / gameplays in that one-two hours clip that I watched. In five years, maybe there will be a remake for this game, when VR system will be more advanced - since that's how this game should be played and can be experienced better. Fighting a raging Leviathan that's destroying a city in a whirlwind on a more advanced VR system would be amazing - not just in 'press a button to continue' cut-scenes.

Imo, FFXV won't mark the series decline. It will mark good things to come in FFXVI. Well hopefully with better, more captivating storyline next time.

I played for 2 hours today.

I don't know what to think honestly. For one part, the graphics and music are gorgeus and story wise is very promising.

But the controls... I don't know, they just feels clunky to me. Noctis moves like his balls are made of steel. It's very noticeable when I try to turn around or when I jump. I know what they're aiming for: it feels realistic. But, in an action RPG I really need a quick response whenever I do an action. And this game does not deliver in that regard.

As for the combat... I think it has too many options available at the same time. And that, in a real time combat system, can be a mistake. I feel overwhelmed, I want to try everything, but that's really hard in a real time enviroment. Maybe when I've played for 10 hours I'll get used to it, but as for now, I think there's too much actions to think about. In my opinion, they should have introduced some mechanics gradually. Like, In the first hours you only get the basics: attack, block, dodge and magic. Then something in the story happens and you get the teleportation thing. Then a few more hours pass and you get those teammate attacks you do with the L button. And so on. I think it would be better for the player, not only because you let him get acquainted with the things he has at his disposal, but also creates a nice feel of progression.

I have to play a lot more to give my veredict, but as for now I'm struggling to find any major form of enjoyment in this game.

That's what you get from people complaining that FFXIII had too much handholding.

84 currently. Certainly did not expect it to be that low.

Jesus Christ

What is wrong with modern gamers? Since whena 84 is considered low?

This game had so much going on against it, 10 years of development hell and yet it still delivered a nice and gorgeous product

Can't speak for the PS4 but aliasing and draw-distance is horrible on the One.

A game that took ten years to make should score higher than 84 considering games that took much less time to make(The Witcher III, MGSV, Uncharted 4) scored much higher.

Yeah, I feel that this game is just Square Enix saying: "Oh, you didn't like X thing from XIII? Well, now we'll go for the extreme opposite. Hope you enjoy guys!"

Updated to reflect GameReview's score, which brought downt the meta to 84.

To be fair, they also did this with all the things that people liked from FFXIII. SE always goes all in.
