Legendary Entertainment wins screen rights to Frank Herbert's Dune

Get ready for a dusty new cinematic experience where the Spice must flow!

One of my favorite movies of all times.. I wasn't even born yet when it came out in 1984, it took me about 20 years later to see it on TV, and I've got to say I was really impressed.

Now, in a major coup, Legendary Entertainment (The Dark Knight, Interstellar, Pacific Rim) has acquired worldwide rights to the seminal sci-fi novel.

Frank Herbert's Dune is arguably one of the single most influential novels of the last half-century and a literary gold mine that has been picked over by authors, filmmakers, painters and artists of all persuasions.

Sadly enough this won't be about portraying the story as it was meant to reach consumers. It will be about reaching as many consumers possible.

That's my guess. Flash over substance. Call me skeptic.

Sounds good to me, I`ll never watch the original (too old) so the only way I`ll ever watch it is with a remake...

the original looks really good for its age.

Cool! I'm very happy that it can finally get unhinged again.

Dune has a hell of a lot of potencial. But at this point i wouldnt start with the original.

The Dune legends saga is the best way to reboot this franchise. I'm sure it's way more cinematic than the originals.

After that we should head to the houses saga (imediate prequal) before heading to the main saga. That is so people feel invested in the characters and don't feel lost when watching a 2 hour movie where theres no time to properly explain the context. It needs to be multiple movies.

If legends is the TV series it will be a waste. This can be an epic film franchise if done right. Actually the only part that lends to series is indeed the houses prequals. Actually, it would be a very game of thrones series to make.

With that said... Legendary? I don't see many great things from them, so i'm worried.

Could never get into this film. Love old school cinema, but some films like this and Highlander I could never understand.

Why is this in music discussion? Is it going to be a musical? Wouldnt surprise me.

Hunting Season is done...

Seriously, why is it in the music discussion? If anything it belongs more in the movies section.

I love Dune, so different from all the generic sci-fi. Got the DVD, accidentally bought it twice on Blu-ray. Played the 1979 Avalon Hill board game a lot, Dune adventure game on PC, Dune 2 RTS, Dune 2000 remake. Oh yeah read the book too.

Seems they're looking at Denis Villeneuve for Director. He made Sicario who's style could fit. Hopefully it will be a serious effort and not Jupiter Ascending like crap.

I thought it got a remake in a TV mini series about 15 years ago

my bad guys, it was really really early in the morning when I made this thread, I was still waking up and to me music section looked like movies. I will ask a mod to move it.
