Forums - PC Discussion - Advice needed - Gaming laptop Purchase

My son is due for a new laptop.  I'd like to spend around $1500.00 USD.  I have not paid any attention to laptops in the last couple of years so I no longer have a decent grip on what I should be looking for in today's laptops.

My son's needs.  His friends are on PC, and although he doesn't seem to play graphically demanding games that may be because his current laptop is Win7. He will be using it for art at school as well.  I intend to also buy a platform/cooler as he tends to lay in bed and use it, and I know power = heat.

I appreciate any advice or SKUs.

Laptop for $1500?

I am no expert but, some basics that I would make sure to have for that much money.

HDD: >1TB
RAM: >16GB
Video Card: ~4GB
Processor: >3GHz
Screen: >19" with good resolution
Decent Power supply and Cooling

I could be decently off the mark, especially if you intend to build it yourself.

Asus makes some really solid stuff

Be sure to get a GeForce GTX 1060 6GB. That thing is crazy fast for a laptop and it's the only mobile Pascal chip that is still relatively cheap for a laptop. Should be doable with 1,500 USD.

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

with that kinda money you could get some badass laptops....

Ikr! The highest end GPU last gen was the 980M under 2k and that still couldnt match a desktop grade 970! Now a 1060 on a laptop beats the desktop 970 which is just craycray
