What is the minimum for good 1080p gaming?

AMD FX 6300
Nvidia 1050ti or 1060 or AMD 470
some board, ssd, case, power

Possible for 450$?

Something like this will run pretty much everything at 1080/60 for $500 with a 1TB HDD and a 120GB SSD for the OS.

You could drop the SSD and get it closer to $450.

What else will you be doing besides gaming? I initially got my PC as a stream box for my consoles. I have an i7 4790k and an R9 390X, and I'm not at all satisfied with what I have, and plan to build a new computer next year, but I know the money can be better spent, when I already have a perfectly good computer as it is... At very least, I will upgrade to a GTX 1080, or if I can get something better around may, opt for that instead.

I'd say go a few steps above what you think you'll need. That way, you wont be feeling like you should have done something different down the road.

Also, when are you planning to build it?

Gaming will definitely be the most demanding thing I'll do on it. Other than that I'll probably do some schoolwork on it, but that doesn't really take power. Though I already ordered the parts now, hopefully they arrive soon.

Sorry to hear that.  Now's really the time to wait, because in just a few months, there's going to be the i7 7700k, and GTX 1080TI, etc.

Well, one can wait and pick up the latest and greatest and pay the most too. But to enjoy modern gaming on the PC it seems that this will be a solid build. I would go i7 myself, but that's just because I do so much while gaming e.g. streaming at the same time.

The latest leaks say that the new Intel chips will only be 5-10% faster than the current ones. If that's true, he's not losing much.

And the 1080Ti will be expensive as hell, much more than the 1070 he ordered. And there's no reason to believe that it will make prices of the other cards go down either.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

If you aren't overclocking you don't need an aftermarket cooler.

Depending on the price differences, I'd just go with an older mobo compatible with DDR3 and possibly a year older CPU depending on compatibility. You won't really notice much of a difference, and a high end i5, even if it is a year old will not be the limiting factor on your computer. Likely will save substantial dollars.

That is also an enormous power supply for your build, unless you are intending on going dual gpu eventually (I personally went 750 just so I'd have that option available).

Don't forget a cd drive if your case doesn't come with it...unless you are buying everything digital.

The 6600K doesn't come with a cooler.

Just go with a 6600 then. There is really no need to overclock anyways, and by the time you do, you should probably just be upgrading your computer.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

That's a separate issue though. If OP chooses the 6600K, they'll need a cooler.

With me living in norway, all those things would cost roughly a bazillion dollars, and I want to have my PC before christmas because of the simple fact that I'm soon out of high school and I'm unsure of how much time I'll have to game after that.
