Forums - Gaming Discussion - What trend you dont like in todays games?

I'm not really a fan of season passes myself. I don't like when a game is already selling them when the game itself hasn't been released yet. It kind of feels like extra goods that could have been sold with the game, but it left out to make more money. I'm sure that's not always the case, but it feels more so like that currently in the industry.

Completely agree with you.Its so bad that the game with a season pass effectively doubles the price of a game. Its ridiculous. Not only that, but the pre-order bonus are also getting out of hand.Like FF XV or Star Wars Battlefront(I think the game does that), if the pre-order bonus is so massive to the point that you need a sheet to know what you are getting with what kind of bonus you are getting, its because you are doing something wrong.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Online gaming, a great jrpg doesn't need that, give me a amazing and deep story and i'm fine;)

The flood of generic, uninspired first person everything.

"It's a freerunner, BUT IN FIRST PERSON."
"It's a hack and slash, BUT IN FIRST PERSON."
"It's a puzzler, BUT IN FIRST PERSON."
"It's really just unreal with a skin, BUT WITH 'CALL OF DUTY' IN THE TITLE."

It's disheartening.

The obsession with specs

I don't know if for me its a trend or if its an entire category of games. But here they are.

Online only.

Microtransactions.

First person everything.

Health Regen as opposed to health packs and health management. (Hell I think even FF15 has it now too!!!!)

Too much handholding. Back then the closest we got to tutorials were the info on the games controls in the manual. Now, entire games feels like a tutorial. Games like soul reaver or the original tomb raider simply can't exist now.

There is probably more, but that's what came off the top of my head.

Online only suuuucks. Thankfully games like that are few and far between, and one of the most prominent titles of the last few years to go the multi-only route ( Titanfall ) has added single player.

What I don't like is that some companies release half of the game in order to fix it later with paid DLCs.

Some games also have pre-order bonus  based on the store you purchased it. Some have pre-order bonus if you purchase the online version.

It seems that the companies want to sell everything they need week 1. That is the reason why games like Watch Dogs 1 sold over 10 millions, but the sequel started with bad numbers.

I think that the consumer will notice it soon, then the  companies won't continue with this trend.

$$$ for DLC is the biggest. Another would be the number of shooters VS other genres.

I hate starting up my console and having a firmware update to download every freaking time. Enough.

Companies trying to squeeze as much money out of the game as possible
