Manufacturing in US now a high end expensive product like the iphone would not effect then so much that they would have to resort to such a ridiculous idea.

They can eat a little cost pass on a little to consumer and service providers.

It getting to a point where ill be just easier to make it in to the US.

Don't worry they will find way to milk every cent. Wyoming lol

It would be more like a protest against Trump by ridiculirzing his idea of bringing manufacturing back to USA than a way to make money actually.

Umm real world not lefti fairy lands.

They were talking prospects of moving maf to us before he ever got elected.

protesting, pres elect.  A mega corp, lol wtf i dont even know were to start.

Or, you know... they could always just take less profit on each phone sold. The profit margin on these devices are so high that they could assemble them in the US and still make a killing.

Aye when you look at the Chinese "unbranded" phones like https://www.amazon.co.uk/DOOGEE-Smartphone-MTK6753-Android-13-0MP/dp/B01BY6J1JO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479708021&sr=8-1&keywords=doogee+f5 and the price difference going on here for something with an 8 core processor, 3gb ram and 16gb rom, this is just such a powerhouse of a phone for money that wouldn't get you a pair of headphones for an iPhone, partner has this exact phone, should see how well it runs things upwards of PSP emulation for €117 it's insane to me people paying close to 1k for a brand name.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Building in the US would not be a one-for-one translation on labor costs. The Foxconn and Pegatron factories that Apple use in China are heavily labor-intensive. Building in the US they could use a far more capital-intensive process, reducing labor requirements by more than the increase in cost of labor.

Also, labor costs in China ARE increasing - quadrupled since 2006. Companies are starting to reassess where they build things because of this. Some will invest in improved machinery in the Chinese factories to reduce labor, some will move to other low-cost countries, and some will return back to the West.

If the US Gov't can take steps to make manufacturing in the US more attractive again (reducing/repealing taxes and regulations), many more companies may choose that third option.

If they comeback to USA because it`s more attractive is one thing, but they being forced to comeback because some kind of backlash like higher taxes or something else won`t be good. And higher taxes and backlash was what Trump proposed to bring manufacturing back to USA instead of offering advantages.

Most people are just thinking about the assembling. But where should the parts come from? Those are also made in the far east right now. If that would have to change, holy fuckballs, you are in for a beautiful surprise! While it is true that Apple has ridiculous high margins, they can't just let those reduce. And it is expensive as fuck to produce such an insane amount of devices in the US. Not just because of minimum wage, but also because of taxes, health issues and so on. There's a fuckload of things to consider, all in all, Apple would probably break even with the current prices and a manufacturing in the US.

But guess what happens if they just eat the losses. Shares would plummit hard as fuck, investors would get the hell away from Apple, shrinking their market cap in no time. Less value in shares means less money available. Less money available meany higher risk. That all can come together just right to fuck even a giant like Apple up for good.

There's a reason that there is globalization, and especially US citizens profit heavily from it. They just don't know it. Sure, there will be jobs. But you won't be able to afford anything with your minimum wage earned in the glorious Apple factory.

But oh well, we'll see. I don't think Trump would ever pull this though. And even if he tries, Apple would just get the hell out of the US. So nothing will happen either way.

And Apple does generate loads of jobs in USA, and good ones. Considering all their activities like retail, R&D, administration, logistics and etc. they already provides many jobs. They once published an article where they affirm they generate more than 500.000 jobs in USA.
