On this day in 2006, exactly a decade ago, the Nintendo Wii released to the public.

With its intuitive motion controls, it managed to break through to new audiences who had never gamed before, and become a bona fide pop culture phenomenon.

Meanwhile it offered plenty to the more traditional gamer as well, with games like Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Xenoblade Chronicles, Zelda Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, Metroid Prime 3, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Monster Hunter Tri, The Last Story, Super Paper Mario, and many more.

It went on to sell 101 million units, making it not only the highest selling Nintendo console, but the third highest selling console from any company to date.

Was my 2nd console after the Original Xbox. Oh the good times.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).
