Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why updated ports make sense for Nintendo fans

The Xbox 360 is like 12x more powerful than the original Xbox. The Switch does not that kind of power over Wii U to comfortably pull of emulation and physically incorporating elements of the Wii U's architecture would probably cripple the Switch as a power efficient handheld

But the Xbox One isn't 12x more powerful than the Xbox 360. They still made it happen. Nintendo could easily pull it off. If they managed to port all these Wii U games to the Switch then it probably isn't that hard.

Xbox One is like 8-10x more powerful than 360 and its emulation is not the best. The Switch trying to emulate the Wii U would be a terrible 15fps game experience and the Wii U doesn't have enough games to justify the effort it would require. Just port the 8 or so games people care about, market them like new and forget the Wii U ever existed is the smartest approach.

Ok an iPhone 7 is waaaaayyyyyyy stronger, where are the games that compare to the ones you just listed? thats right, they dont exist.

Wii U had plenty of droughts, it usually had a decent holiday quarter but the other 3 quarters usually just had 1 game each.

You can see that 3-4 month droughts between exclusives was not uncommon at all.

So same for Ps4/Xbox One. Even with 3rd Party Support 2-3 Month droughts are nor uncommon. Same with original Wii.

iOS and Android games are always made to run on as most devices as possible. There is no iPhone 7 exclusive games yet, they are all made to run on older hardware as well (and they dont have many graphic settings). But here are some examples:

Tech Demo running on Samsung Galaxy s7 (similar performance to iPhone 7)

iPhone 6s tech demo:

Assassins Creed running on an iPhone 5 (~16x less strong then iPhone 7)

Infinity Blade III (made to run on iPhone 4s and higher)

F1 running on iPhone 5s and 7 (almost no differences, the game is made to run on weaker hardware as well to boost sales). iPhone 7 is ~8x as strong as iPhone 5s.

This Game (Afterpulse) was made for iPhone 5s/6. The iPhone 7 is around 6-8 times stronger then those phones. Keep that in mind.

This Game was made for iPhone 4. The iPhone 7 is ~30x as strong

There is no real 2016 flagship exclusive game on mobile yet, because the developers want to reach as many customers as possible. Each iPhone Generation roughly double the performance of the previous one. With some thinking it should be easy to understand how capable the iPhone 7 or Galaxy s7 are.

That is 100% false, show me a couple time periods of 3-4 months that PS4/XBO went without a notable release.

And good job, you posted some tech demos and games with worse visuals & worse gameplay. You cannot get a similar experience on smartphones/tablets.

I'm a Nintendo fan. I already have these games on Wii U. I'd rather they focus on the next installments of their franchises instead of adding new stuff to games I already bought years ago and have them expect me to pay more. They better run a promotion where if you own these games on Wii U you get Switch versions at a steep discount. Otherwise full on double dipping is a slap in the face to Wii U owners who have already suffered enough.

There's nothing stopping you getting an Xbox One or PS4 while you wait for enough non Wii U ports to want a switch.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Maybe that could be Nintendos slogan?

"Buy a PS4 or XB1 until we get our shit together"

I already did. Switch is looking less and less appealing every day. Seems like Nintendo is trying to drive away fans of Nintendo home consoles.

Im sorry you arnt capable understand the relation i tried to show you. Games like Skyrim could run without any issues on the iPhone 7. The iPhone 7 is in most parts stronger then the tegra x1 shield console (geekbench alot stronger, trex manhatten rendering a little bit less strong).

Here is Crysis running on the shield console (it was never released as far a I know).

Here are the benchmarks X1 vs A10Fusion:

Geekbench 3
A10Fusion: Singlecore 3223, Multicore: 5363

Tegra X1: Singlecore: 2500 Multicore: 4600

GFX Bench Trex 1080p offscreen rendering:

A10Fusion: 107 FPS

Tegra X1: 119 FPS

(iPad Pro: 163 FPS)

Very similar performance but the x1 in the shield console has active cooling and is plugged in. There is no reason the iPhone couldnt run crysis 3 in very similar graphical settings then the shield console. The games just need to be made.

As soon as games like skyrim come to the switch, it is very likely that they will also come to iOS and Android. Connect bluetooth controller and your good to go.

For now all games are also made to run on  older hardware to boost sales, but this will change in the future. Its sad you arnt capable of seeing the relations...

GTA Games, Bioshock, Assassins Creed are all already available on mobile. They just doesnt look as impressive yet scince they are still made to run on an iPhone 5, which is just a fraction of the iPhone 7s power.

ya i understand the comparison you are trying to make, the problem is that is has nothing to do with what you originally said, "my iPhone can play similar games"

You said it could play games similar to Nintendo games, which is untrue, you cannot play games on iPhone that are comparable to the top Nintendo games.

Im also still waiting for you to show me all those PS4/XBO droughts.

I see no reasons why they shouldnt do ports.

i just think its strange that when PS4/X1 were getting them early it was frowned upon more, and now its just either yeah great move Nintendo or eh whatever.

Well, it is possible that people wanted to buy the games in question getting ports but not enough to buy the console for them. So this is more so for non Wii U owners.

Nintendo games didnt helped the wii u either. They arent as appealing. And I dont see any real logical reason third party would port their games to the switch (mobile arm cpu VERY similar to tablets/smartphones) but miss out on the 100 mio+ installed hw base on capable ios/android phones. Check the Numbers on sold iPhones or Galaxy phones per year.

Droughts:

Beginning of 2015 (after evolve) there was nothing released for xbox one i can remember yet. ps4 got order 1886 though.

Summer 2014 (For and after Watch Dogs) was nothing on both systems as well.

Beginning of 2014 wasnt as great as well.

And Beginning of 2016 was similar. The devision was march?

No. I already played those games on Wii U. Also, only XenoX is wirth to be ported. The rest no.

My first year line up so far is Skyrim, Xeno and Zelda. Ports. Yay. Only 3DMario is new so far in my wishlist.
