People are saying the same hardware could also emulate perfectly SNES and Nintendo 64. I wonder if Nintendo is planing something like that.
About generations, I think this gen talk is done, just like the Bits debate.

about specs
As a home console: it's a current gen, or even older.
As a handheld: it's new gen.

about games
For first party, it doesn't matter
For third party, it will be treated as barely a current gen

As for what really matters to determine the gen, which is the time of the release, well... It's too hard to tell, the current gen is far from being over, Scorpio is not set to replace the One. The Switch is both portable and a home console but doesn't replace the 3DS, will the 3ds be replaced?

We just cannot know what is the Switch's place, we'll have to wait and see.
