With the Wii U we got the use of touch screen in our console games (Scribblenauts was big in my house) and the ablitly to play our console games off TV.  We also got to play many of our local two play games without the use of split screen (which I loved).  The PS4/Box One (which I've owned or still own) gave better graphics and little else.  In the past year, I've played multiple times more on my gaming computer and Wii U than the PS4/Xbox One combined.  There's just nothing much new there.

Like FF XIV, No Man`s Sky, The Witcher III and Final Fantasy XV only were possible because of a strong hardware. Hardware brings graphics, but it also bring AI, Physics, Real Time Weather, Massive Multiplayer, Virtual Reality, Procedural Generation...

We already had all this in the last generation. FFXV started development as a PS3 game, so it would have been possible on it. After the transition to the PS4 SE had more capabilities to highlight the visuals, but I cannot believe that the gameplay is only possible on the new hardware. It's an rpg after all. FFXIV is a PS3 game. The Witcher  is a wrpg. Why couldn't it have been possible on a PS3? Procedural generation might be the only thing that's new due to requiring a lot of processing power, but this alone doesn't make a good game. We all know the customer's perception of No Man's Sky.

Or its great idea like Wii was. Of Course it's not hard to make classic home console, but do we really needs 3 identical home consoles on market or its better that each offer something difrent!? To learn what exactly, that's is better to do exactly same thing like others are doing than to try to do and offer something different than others!?

The difference between the 3 are exclusive games

So you saying we need to have 3 identical consoles, where they will have 90% of same games (multi platform) and only less than 10% of games that are exclusives and actualy only real difference between consoles!? You do realise that PS4 and XB1 have around 90% of same games and only less than 10% of exlusive games!? Also today for console market, multiplatform games become way important than exclusives, look at best selling games for XB1 and PS4 and you will get of pictures. Also you don't really have place on market for 3 identical consoles, best chance for Nintendo is to try and offer something different than competition and that's exactly what they are doing with Switch.

What? You don't want to carry a phone And a tablet to play games on?

Yes, it seems like another meh idea. I thought the WiiU was really meh, and I loved my Wii. Why no new WiiFit games or Wii Sports Ultra? Why not give something to the fans of those great selling games?

No, they just make another small device because portable gaming on your phone or tablet is so hard.

Le Sigh.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

"doing this thing of trying to be different with no clear advantage?"

Well said sir, well said.

I don't know if you try to support OP or if you are sarcastic. If you're sarcastic, never mind, forget about it. If you support him, however, let me kindly tell you that there are plenty of advantages which have already been pointed out a million times in dozens of threads on this site, but unfortunately you haven't seen them.

Do you think I am new to gaming? I have been gaming for the last 26 years, and I owned every Nintendo platforms.

And no I don't think the advantages  of the last Nintendo platforms trumps the disadvantages.

I know it's really hard for fanboys to grasp the fact that other people can have a different opinion than them, but that's just what it is.

That's the point, both are performing great when it comes to sales. Nintendo should just do the same.

Do we really need three similar consoles? Call it what you want, but the switch is the 3ds successor. I like my 3DS more than my PS4. The switch is perfect as it's to me.

You don't know how powerful it is compared to PS4/X1.

True, but we can say with almost total certainty that will be weaker than an Xbox One.

Then again, what else is new? Nintendo haven't released a system that power-competitive since 2001. They've made it clear that they want no part in that arms race. Wii and Wii U were about 5 years behind the curve power wise and Switch looks like it will be as well. At this point, it's best to just accept that Nintendo does things differently; we'll probably never see another system from them that competes head on with Playstation and Xbox. They dance to the beat of their own drum, for better or worse.

You know what I agree with you here. Why should anyone make a system thats X1 power and make it portable? You're basically garunteed to have a one hour battery life. But, I figure that making a system that is technically weaker than the X1 and PS4 AND less capable is not practical given Nintendo also wants to win 3rd party support. So now we are left with the question; how do you make system as capable as X1/PS4, portable, with enough battery life to spare without it actually being as powerful?

That's a good question. I believe that it doesn't need to be literally as powerful to be able to outperform them. Newer architecture, faster RAM, more efficient processors, and newer technology can work around this issue. It's very possible that we can see graphics on the Switch that are on par or even better than X1/PS4 just because the hardware is more capable, while requiring less power to achieve this. Your thoughts?

The scale that FF XV has requires processing power, have you seen the enemies and the summons? They are HUGE. And in-game physics needs processing power, AI needs processing power, Smoothness needs processing power, it`s not just about looks, but it`s also about looks too. Why looks can`t be important? Graphics are important, and they are part of the experience too, Nintendo fans seems to don`t understand that. Aesthesics are important.

My thoughts are that the technology just isn't there yet. Mobile chips won't be able to outperform Xbox One for a few more years. Switch's tech is only three years newer than PS4/X1, that's not enough to close the raw power gap.

It's best if we just make peace with the fact that Switch will be weaker than X1/PS4, instead of setting ourselves up for disappointment. Nintendo has long since opted out of the graphics arms race.
