Mix magic and monsters with Muggles and the result is the movie we've all been waiting for since Harry Potter hung up his wand.

Rowling, who wrote the screenplay, has layered a sophisticated and surprisingly dark origin story that will appeal more to grownups than the younger set.

J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" spinoff is sheer magic, a grand fantasy-adventure that already feels like an old family favorite.

Rowling nimbly lays out her world, but that world isn't nearly as rich as the world of Hogwarts.

There's just enough romance, whimsy, creativity and eye-catching visuals to enchant in Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, but its flaws ultimately come close to ruining it all.

Either way it bodes very well for the sequels. First movies in new series tend to be the weakest (or first seasons of TV shows) so to have such strong groundwork for the sequels to build on is awesome.
